Suggestions for a latch system for bar-lock doors

My trailer has a bar-lock door, not an RV type door. I tried to fit a "slam latch" like many teardrops use, but just cannot get it to be secure enough. The CC seems to flex/twist enough that the latch slips off the jamb I built and the door pops open. The way the door/jamb are arranged, I cannot get enough of the latch to catch... only about 1/4".

I have removed the slam latch and replaced the bar-lock system for now. Question/idea: do some of you with this type of door simply use a bolt latch when securing from the inside, and the bar-lock when securing from the outside?

For those of you who have installed the RV type latch in one of these doors, how hard was it... looks like major surgery in a few photos I've seen..... eww.

Suggestions?
Thanks

I use what you mentioned. A simple bolt lock when inside, mainly just to keep the door shut, and then the bar lock from the outside.

I usually re-lock the bar open when I'm going to be inside, so some smart ass can't lock me in.

I also have the bar lock and RV latch so when we get to camping spot we will install pad-lock on bar so that somebody can't lock us in.
