Hello Fellow CTC'ers.
I'm new to this forum. Glad I found it.
I was wondering what to use to glue insulation too ceiling?
I'd put a picture in but haven't figured it out yet.

Thanks!
Rando

Hi, Rando,

I don't think most people use glue for the ceiling. Depending on what kind of insulation you use, you can cut it to fit snugly enough that it will hold itself in place. I used the white sheets of styrofoam stuff with the metallic foil on one side. I cut it just a little larger (about 1/8" or so) than the opening, and pushed it into place, where it stayed. Some other folks used the more rigid blue or pink insulation, maybe someone else can speak to that.

I used 3M Fastbond 30-NF contact adhesive to hold my white styrofoam insulation to the inside of my aluminum trailer. Search here for Fastbond 30 and you'll find lots of info on it. Works well especially on metal that gets hot in the sun.

Easy to apply, water cleanup, low VOC, no bad aroma, not cheap.

Thanks Robin& Chas. I would like to glue it to the ceiling. I'll cut it for snug fit too
I see pictures of a board running from floor too ceiling. I thought it was to hold in place while glue dries.
I'll look for that glue Chas.
Thanks Randy

My styrofoam was friction fit before gluing it in place, but I figured that, since there's no plywood or paneling on the inside, it probably would not stay put for long, so I glued it.

Rando,

I posted this as a response to your question in my build thread but thought I should repost it in your thread in case you didn't see it in my thread.

It's a great place
Thanks Rando

Rando,

I started out gluing the overhead insulation in place using some crap recommended by Home Depot for the purpose. It stuck for about two days then didn't. I came out to continue working on the overhead insulation a few days later and the two pieces I had put up were laying on the CT floor, and that was after spreading the glue, then pressing the insulation pieces in place using an automotive jack and a 2x4 to hold the insulation pressed against the CT aluminum ceiling (see pics in my album). After those first two pieces didn't stick I realized it was better to simply cut the insulation slightly oversized then force fit in into the space between the CT metal frame rails, and it stays in place. In the few cases I did later glue smaller pieces in place, because I didn't get it cut quite correctly/oversize enough, I used Liquid Nails glue bought from Home Depot. That stuff sticks anything to anything! Be aware that there are several types of liquid Nails for various applications. If I were at home I could tell you exactly the type I used but, alas, I am not at home so check the labels of the various types to ensure you get the type best suited to gluing insulation in place i.e., something that will stick plastic/styrofoam to metal. You only need to hold the insulation board in place long enough to get the ceiling paneling put up. Then the ceiling paneling will hold it in place (again, see my album).

I hope that helps.

BTW, welcome to the forum!

Don

welcome and as others have said either way works if you are going to cover the celing with plywood or some other type of solid covering.
I don't think many if any just leave the insulation exposed.

good luck on your build.
