Metal ceiling material?

Postby pmowers » Sat Sep 15, 2012 7:17 pm

I been kicking around a number of ideas for various materials for the ceiling of my cargo trailer. The latest one is to use the sheet metal that is used for roofing. It weighs about 65 pounds per hundred sq. ft. Cost-wise, I can get it for about $70 per square, cut to the length I need. The corrugations would keep it pretty rigid. Anybody tried it? Do I need to have my head examined - again?

Seems like you may get a condensation problem in cold weather when you start heating the ct up. I don't know that for sure, just a thought.

When the ceiling of my teardrop was bare metal, I had one heck of a condensation problem when the humidity was high and the temp below the dew point. Used to drip on me sleeping.

If you do a metal ceiling you need to insulate it so it's not thermally connected to the roof (i.e., not screwed/bolted/nailed to the ribs).
