Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

We parked and started to get set up for a beautiful weekend overlooking Port San Luis Harbor.

Then we were greeted by the campground host.

First words out of his mouth “you need to move this trailer immediately”. I said what’s up? He explained I wasn’t self contained. I thought it was I have a porta potty, a few gallons of water and batteries. He said ok tell me about your trailer. I gave him the rundown and he said “ok, you need to move this trailer immediately” “the rules state you must have a power & water hookup” I said that’s funny this is a dry campground there are no hookups.

Needless to say he was right and I was wrong no matter what I said. So we packed up and left.

Luckily we were fairly close to home but I could see this happening after a long road trip and being turned away.

Question: Has anyone else run into issues? Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future? I know I’m not an RV and rules are rules but it was a huge bummer.

That really stinks, and really makes no sense all. Why should they care if your rig is equipped to hook up to amenities that don't exist?? They should have been happy to have you there since you wouldn't block the view for everyone else like some 40" bohemeth with an awning, a satellite dish, slide outs, air conditioners and every other kind of protrudance imaginable.

I'd say that, technically, you were self-contained, provided you had some sort of holding tank for your grey water.
(You aren't supposed to dump that on the ground, especially when you're near the ocean or river, etc.)

I would have asked for a copy of the rules and the name of the person or establishment that made those rules.
Then, I would have called or written to them. You still could do that (writing them might be better); and, you never know!
You might get a free camping weekend for your trouble!

My guess is it wasn't that you didnt' have the hook ups per say. It was probably because the lack of holding tanks.. Lots of campground do not want trailers with out holding tanks. They know your going to have to wash a dish or 5. Probably going to want to take some kind of shower at some point. They probably also prefer people to have a black water tank instead of a small porta potty. Campground with out any kind of bath house tend to have rules like that. Also like said above anytime your on the bank of a river or the ocean front they don't want any waste water hitting the ground...

We have never had a problem and we dry camp a fair amount.. But we also have a full bathroom and holding tanks in ours. Mainly cause we might go camping for several days at a time not just for a day or two. That means with not bathroom your digging holes for poo and stinking up the place after a couple of days with out a shower

Maybe just park your car in the car parking lot

Better yet - I say just get yourself a fake faucet , fake electric outlet & fake water holding tank installed.....
and enjoy life

He could have been polite & said don't dump your junk here or we need to chuck you out ...
He made it seam like it was 911 - for you to get the hell out of there.
Generally we like you to have this, this & this in your RV ....so don't show up without it next time.

That's a real profiling case if I've ever heard one. The way you tell it, he seemed like he was a step from throwing your lawn chairs about (if you have them?)! I agree that you should write the campground and report Mr. Fife for being rude. Maybe even write a review on Google, or a Dear Editor in the paper.

I agree, definitely a case of profiling. Places don't like folks pitching a pup tent in the front yard of the Hilton. They look at you like Clark Griswold did at cousin-in law Eddie in the Chevy Chase movie "Christmas Vacation". If it wasn't for the reasons he gave, it would have been for something else. Face it, your just not classy enough for a joint like that. You could have all the emenities in the world, he would just post a sign stating they have the right to refuse service to anyone. If they have that kind of a@@hole attitude, who would want to go there anyway even if you met their requirements.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and advice. I am going to follow up with them and have them provide me with a copy of their rules & regulations. Keep ya posted

It's people and experiences like this that made me buy
a Contour Roam video camera. Video that guy and his additude...
put it on youtube for the world and his supervisor to see.
I carry my Contour Roam in my pocket for self defense.
You can video with it at your hip and he will not even know.
You should be treated with courtesy and respect.

We should have a trailer meet there , with all the tear drops and everything else we can pull or drag overthere..
then someone gets a flat tire and the whole show get all jammed up..

Just remember this guy was/is a jerk. But you don't know what else may have happened. Be kind, be polite. There's no reason to be a jerk yourself.

If he was wrong, and he pulled his own arbitrary rule to kick you out, then take the problem over his head. That's just action. But wishing he'd have a stroke? Really? That isn't what I would expect from anyone I've met here.

Kindness kills, as they say. Boycotting does as much as a run on the park. I would like to see the end of this, and hopefully our friend can return to the campground.
