Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I looked around for a while, and never did come up any portable toilet that I thought met all of my needs. So I set out to build one. I wanted one meant for big people, as I am one of them I also wanted something that would hold a bag, as a blackwater tank, or a tank that needed to be washed out, doesn't agree with my gut... So I wanted the larger seat, a sturdy frame, capable of fitting a trash bag well, and cheap. This is what I came up with:




The elongated seat fits perfectly on the trash can


The can just tips forward for emptying, but only when the lid is up. When the lid is down, the seat stands rest on the backside to keep it place.


Just a simple wood frame


Taller and more stable than a 5 gallon bucket


We'll use it with trash compactor bags and bio-gel. Honestly, I don't mind using the port-o-johns at the locations we camp. She-who-must-be-pleased demanded a functioning, comfortable method that could easily be deployed within the Hauler. This piece of equipment will get it's trial run in a week and a half.

edit: It was kind of interesting walking through Ace Hardware comparing a toilet seat to their trash cans. If you want to build this, and you are susceptible to embarrassment, make a cardboard template of your preferred seat and take that in with you.

we used to use a 5gal bucket with trash back and sportsmans guide emergency loo top . it worked till... well till we aged and got big enough that it wasnt' working so good anymore.

Trimming it out is on the list. For now function will do over form. We close on our 5-acre-fixer-upper this Friday. So I need to spend as little on the Hauler as possible till we get the new homestead fixed up. I figure I'll use shower board to trim it out. I also thought just the frame would be handy to see for anyone else who might thinking about this direction.

My loathe for blackwater tanks knows few limits...

I'm sorry but this still some serious funny shite!!! Necessity is the mother of invention.

After using it for a 4 day festival, I can honestly say it's one sturdy and handy unit. It is girlfriend approved And as a 330 lb man who used it while in my own wobbly state, it's rock solid.

If you look closely, you'll see it's designed to have all weight loaded directly to the floor with the 2x4 upright legs. Anything attached sideways is just there as a place holder.

With my weight, I've used the portable units you can buy, and they flex, scarily, for a man my size. On those units, I always have the feeling that it might collapse, then I would be in deep doodoo

I assume that many of you, are smaller, sub-225lb people. For those of us that look svelte at 250... this is the best option I've found

I usually run around 235-240 and I've done well with the Pett pottie. My only complaint is its too low to the ground. I have worried about it collapsing, but it hasn't let me down so to speak. Looks like yours is quite strong.

I too fit the "a tiny bit over weight" Category my solution to the too short potty was to build a platform
for it to sit on I only use it for number 1 but it comes in handy when you have others that can't make it to campground's toilet.

In all the years I have been camping I have only used the trailers potty once for number 2 a bad case of
Diarrhea somewhere between Ohio and Florida along I-75

During that cold January winter night I was glad to have a built in toilet
I used water from a 5 gallon jug to flush since my holding tanks were winterized.

since you have already done a trial run as far as toilets go I'm glad you found a solution.

Yes, it is a funny solution :-) You should see the through wall dog door i'm working on now. It's a good thing my girl has a bit of redneck tolerance :-)

I'm 6'2 and 235 lbs.
My Thedford is more than adequate.
It did cost more than your home made unit though.
But I can go down the road without s..t flying out.
I think you know what I mean.
