Hank's Project ...

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Howdy All;

Promise is a promise;

From the back doors looking in,
Image

Not much trash in the bottoms;
Image

They installed the interior walls first did the spray paint bit then attached the exterior walls ... or so it would appear;
Image

They used some of the buytel rubber window seal tape to act as 'Bumpers' so the wires wouldn't just slap
around in the vertical channels at the back end;
Image

only some very light surface rust on the wall studs;
Image

Overall I'm happy with what I found. Should go fairly easy. Gonna need to invest in some Black Rust-o-lieum.

Need to figure out how to down size the pix some...

I see you are using photobucket and an Olympus . Open your PB profile. Click on the Albums tab. Find Upload Options; click. Choose the upload size. That will set your default image size. 800x600 is nice for forums, IMO. PB will take your large images and resize them as it saves them.

Howdy Hank,
How are things going ... Sorry I haven't checked in for a while, have been busy while there is no snow ... Hmmm, kind of like the road crews during Minnesota's 5th season :roll:

Have you done anything lately to your CT conversion?

AZ_Desert_Rat, Howdy;

Sadly, no I haven't been doing much of anything this Summer. Still recovering
from the financial hit I took last year. Am planning on getting some of the
Reflex-tex type if insulation and running it across the rib channels an held
in with the plywood. Gonefishin seems to be doing well with it in his but I
think his is held in place with the sheet metal side of the ribs ... Then I'll
figure out what to do with the front upper section where the Clearance/ID
lights are. Windows ... yes ... no ??? Will figure that out before I do the insulation.

Thanks for checking in, how's the Great White Nord treating you desert tuned being?

It is good talking with you again and
I understand the financial issues ... and as always, we all have priorities. I think that gives us time to work out the details in our projects ...
:roll:
Are you going to glue the foam in place or will it fit tight enough to forego the glue?
:thinking:

I sold my K5 Blazer and am working on my cargo conversion again and haven't used it since last summer. I am thinking about putting it up for sale.
:(

As far as the "Great White North", it is beautiful and last winter was pretty mild ... it stayed below zero for only two weeks and we only had two snows over 12 inches. We have had enough rain this summer to wash Southern Arizona into the Baja...
:rainy: :rainy:

I do miss the desert and am hoping to get down for a visit sometime this fall - winter - spring season to do a little prospecting and say hi to old friends and family.
:worship:

As far as the house and garage ... I am still working on shelving, garage space, trailer storage, etc... I got the garage insulated , paneled, and heated last winter... the house is big enough, but the garage is small; I have to pull hitch bar out the pickup to get the garage door closed!!
:thinking:

AZ_Desert_Rat, Howdy;

John, yep, some priorities do change ... My desire to be able to camp and fish
never gets any less, just the 'Other stuff' that keeps getting in the way all the time.
Oh, well, it'll get done when it's supposed to... if I hurry the process it won't be
the way it's supposed to be.

Well Hank,
If you park your trailer close ... do as I do, when the camping bug starts biting too hard, move out to the trailer for a night or two...
:lol:
AND ... if you have one of those fire pits near the trailer, you can always roast a couple dogs and maybe a marshmallow...
:campfire:
I have been trying to save a bit for a trip to AZ ... 2 weeks planned for sometime this fall-spring time frame... to see family, friends, and chase a couple of gold nuggets... and I keep hoping that gas prices continue to drop. Last round trip was quite spendy...
:worship:
Sooo, camping lately has been real close to home...
:lol:

AZ_Desert_Rat, Howdy;

John, well, as a fatter of mact, it's parked just in front of the RV, allows me to go
and sit in it and contemplate the problems of the World as a whole. Decided it's
a "Black hole" and getting any closer and I'd probably end up in Cali-for-nia ...
NOT on my list of places to go to... unless I get a chance to visit the Sierras for
some fishin' an then I'd come in from Nevada.
The other reason it's parked so close is my extension cord reaches it, in case I
get a few extra pennies put together I can have power to do some work...

Price of gas in TorC today was $2.73, diesel was $2.53.

Howdy All;

Took awhile to find this. All is pretty much as I last posted. Progress has been close to nil.
Have found that the insulation that Gonefishin' has is the same as Trainman45's and is secured
with masking tape to the top horizontal frame then by the interior panels. One mystery
solved while the project is on monetary hold ... as I've said before, things get done when they're
supposed to, or stuff happens.
This past Wed. Rascal and I went on a scouting mission to the Gila Wilderness. 2 objectives;
!). Meet the folks that own the ranch that has a creek running through it that I want to fish. &
2). Check out the road(?), that goes in and out of there.
#1 was a bust no one was home, I'd been in contact with them but a nephew who works on the property
had a cardiac incident so that's forgiven. We'll make other plans later.
Now, about #2. The place where Rascal and I would be camping is named Black Canyon Campground.
It's along side Black Canyon Creek. You can Google Earth the Campground, just be sure to put N.M.
behind the campground.
The total trip was 324 miles and we drove from Home (call it exit 59 of I-25), up to T or C (exit 83), then
on State Road 52 up past Winston and a Left onto State Road 59 for around 30 or so miles till I found
Forest Road 150. The Gila National Forest starts at the Catron and Sierra County Line.
Image

What is meant by "Open Range";
Image

Once I found FR 150 I was greeted by this sign;
Image

This is a fairly nice and easy section, see the road in the distance, I'll be there in a few minutes;
Image

The obligatory "There's a whole lot of empty out there" photo;
Image

Wall Lake, about 10 miles down, 47 to go;
Image

About a half a mile later there was this sign;
Image

Ok, 46.5 more miles to go;
Image

Part of the campground and only half way to the end. We've been on the road about 4 hours now;
Image

Part of the creek and Rascal sez "Dad!!! I heard sumtin'!!!
Image

Looking downstream, 8 miles to the East Fork of the Gila River woo Boy!
Image

What it's all about;
Image

Some more;
Image

Last line kinda says it in a nut shell;
Image

:D ;
Image

At the end of the day we had been on the road for almost 10 hours, covered 328 miles a goodly portion
at 10 - 15 mph for those 57 miles...
I've got some work to get started on...

Hi Hank,
The campground looked nice and peaceful!! :thumbsup:

Was there anyone else around or did you ans Rascal have it to yourselves?? :twisted:

The stream looked like there may have been a few trout in it... Did you catch anything?? :thinking:

Good hearing you here again... I have been doing Honey-Do's and about to catch up... I hope... :worship:

I made it to AZ early spring (February) and those gold nuggets I've been chasing are still running... :lol: :lol:

I stayed at an Escapees campground in Congress (A little more crowded than I like, but a nice, reasonable $$ CG) AZ and at my sister's place in Arivaca, AZ... Had fun but the trip was much too short for me...

Talk again soon.... :D :D

View from camp at my sisters ... ;)
My Buddy in AZ counting the Nuggets we found one afternoon in the Congress CG ... :lol:
You know the desert and this is some of what we worked while there; not much luck ... :thumbdown:

McDave, Howdy;

Yep, easy to recognize, nary a cloud to be seen humidity about 3% or 4% ...
makes kiln dried lumber (10% ), sound soggy by comparison :lol: .

AZ_Desert_Rat, Howdy;

No one else around, only meet up with 2 Forest Service vehicles the whole day.
Nope no trouts to be seen ... this trip. This creek has a "Season" July 1 to Oct. 30
so didn't even take a rod with me. This was strictly a scouting trip.
Good to 'see' you as well. Did ya find enough tiny bits to pay for the trip? We've a few
here that make their trip expenses plus a wee bit to show for the effort. Got one
odd duck here that is mining Bat Guano from one of the caves near here. Did I mention
he's a tad "odd".
