Fold down bed suppport

Postby BC_Explorer » Sun Mar 31, 2013 6:28 pm

I am redoing my 6x10 V-Nose CT and will be putting in a folding bed this time. The bed will be lengthwise and fold up against the roadside wall when not in use. I know there are several similar type beds that are being used and the question is; When the bed is folded down, what have you used to support the outside of the bed (the side not attached to the wall.) I was thinking of a couple of swing down legs in both corners with a 3/8" or so round pin through to keep them locked into place?

Any suggestions?

I was lucky and the height of the bed off the floor was the right size that a 1x10 pine board when folded down worked as legs.77607

I used 3/4x3/4square tubing bolted to a 1x1 angle iron which created a stop.

I made them go over center so they stay out, welded a small "shim" bead where it hit the angle iron and then ground it down until they were even at the right angle, so far have worked great!

Mine is simular to pvangel. but I have kickers that lock it in place when down for use and up for traveling. Built it out of an old bed frame I had in the barn.

Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

Thanks guys. The pics from Pvangel and Roadinspector have given me some ideas to work toward.

I gutted the CT (excepting insulation) today and just about broke my heart to do so. However the good thing about a CT build is that there is more then 1 chance to get it setup and working the way you want it to. A few major and minor lessons learned since the first build and I will be applying those lessons this time around for the second build. I will start a new build thread maybe next weekend if the weather cooperates.
