how to attach a tarp or awning

Hello; I am trying to find a way to attach a tarp or awning on to the side of my cargo trailer. Its a Wells Cargo 5x8 w/ added roof, making it have rounded top and sides including a very small gutter, about the size of a finger.
I tried to hook up bungies on the bottom, opposite side and bring the tarp over the top of the trailer but can't figure out how to attach the bungie cords.
Any ideas, thoughts would be appreciated. The instant up canopy's are too much for me/one person to handle. I may just get the REI alcove.
Peace all
Susan

Before you buy an alcove, keep in mind they are not at all sturdy! Mine just collapsed, broke, and I discovered that REI doesn't sell parts for it, thank you very much, thee goes $130.

Take a look at a paha que cottonwood. I watched one survive the same ether that destroyed the alcove and best if all, you can get parts for it...

Kedar/awning rail does very well. We have rail on three sides of the trailer and three tarps that attach. The rail I used is from http://www.sailmakerssupply.com/prod_detail_list/48 and is UV stabilized it is also a darn good price. I attached it with 3M VHB tape.

I am planning to do as Shadow Catcher. I have acquired the rails 'though from another supplier. I live in an area where free used sails are not hard to come by and hope to work out the details soon! Pics when I do.

Everything you need can be found here including the required attachment rail. This is what I use on my 7x14 v-nose and is the best option for the majority of cargo trailers. http://www.rvworkshop.com/index.php/cat ... er-Awnings I have the classic version since the newer design was not out yet and it is also considerbly higher priced. My rails are attached to the upper part of my curved roof with sheet metal screws and a generous layer of the self leveling RV silicone. Has worked great for four years so far in some winds that I really should not have left the awning up in.

How about putting eyebolts thru your frame, sticking a couple of legs of a cheap pop-up thru them (then wrap/attach a bungee to the eyebolts). Then just stake down one or both of the opposing legs. I've seen several awnings, tarps, and pop-ups fly off due to insufficient tie-downs. Here's an eyebolt, to be used to steady a cooking stand, or pop-up, as needed.105194

I use an awning track to be used with a rope. I simply sew a cord on a 8x10 tarp using 3 tent pole.

Thanks for the responses. Good input on the REI Alcove, i'll hold off on that one. I like the eye bolt idea, it's simple, sturdy.
Happy travels

Thanks for posting that link. Was wondering if I could find something like that. The washboards on my folding kayak attach in that manner. It is so easy & works very well.

An awning rail is the best. If you don't have a tarp with a welt, add sail slugs to any tarp with shackles or clips. Shackles fit grommets. Klips if you don't have grommets or they are in the wrong place. Below are the parts I got from Sailrite dot com and easyklips dot com. 5/16" slug, 7/8" shackle and the Mini Klip. If you need, I can take a picture of mine.

These were on sale at Tractor Supply Co a while back & I picked up a few. Saw that Home Depot sells these as well.

That would work with a sail slug too.
