Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Having gone over and over the specs of various trailers-we now are looking at 8x20 Tailwind Cargo Hauler from Trailer ShowRoom in Oregon.We will have to drop the axel and get a ramp door as part of our options but we gain the 3/8 sidewalls and the .3 aluminum siding and George really wants a rounded top and flat front on the trailer.We listed the optons we wanted and then began to weed them out to reflect the options we could afford Poor Chris kept trying to teach me how to send him a picture of my cart (I am computer illiterate and not proud of it). I figured out how to over the weekend while they were closed.Now all we have to do is figure exact placement of the windows and the side door.George has a new lease on life-he gets to spend a chunk of money and fight with me over where,when and how to do things.I read the entire cargo trailer forum when I joined and will now have to do it all over again to jog my memory on the things I saw and want to emulate.I love Barbs's sliding ac and plan to do the same.I think we will have more windows than any other conversion because of our size and George's claustrophobia-5 counting the one in the door.Lots of people want to now why we didn't just buy a toy hauler.Weight and they leak and are flimsy.I'd rather put in what I want and need and make my own decisions. You are a great forum and thank you for all your ideas!

Do you have a link to "Barb's sliding AC"? I'm going to be installing the window AC unit into my ToyBox soon so I'm looking for clever ideas.

Sounds like it will be fun converting! I, too would like a look t that sliding AC, I am trying to decide if we want that or one in the ceiling vent. Our trailer is ordered and It is a 7x12 V-Nose.

Any reason why you want a flat front? A "V" will pull nicer and probably give you better mpgs. Plus you get a little extra space.

I think you will be fine with .030 alum , unless you need it bullet proof ?

I wanted the vnose-George didn't.The Value Hauler car hauler has a .23 skin and the Tailwind cargo hauler has a .3. Each trailer had it's pluses and minuses.Sent a certified check today yeah.

I think you might have a floating decimal point going on.

.3"=~~~5/16=0.3125
.23=~~15/64 [1/64 under 1/4]=0.2344

That's some THICK skin. Good if the trailer is going to be joked about though

The aluminum sheets that I'm using for the stretch on my ToyBox is 0.060" and the wall of the square tubing that frames the stretch is 0.037".

Pesky decimal points,yes ,you are right,I meant .023 and .03.Priced foam insulating panels today and insulating tape for ribs.Need to look up all the old posts on sweating/condensate. We live in Oregon,land of rain and humidity.

For me I have found that air circulation is the best cure for condensation. I haven't seen a CT yet that was built air tight. I didn't install my insulation to be air tight. I used enough duct tape to keep it in place but if it came loose I didn't care. I want some air circulation to prevent condensation. Yes some of it will be cold/cool/hot air and will not be the most efficient insulation. But in turn I am reducing condensation. I have installed a maxxair vent cover. I can leave the roof vent as open as I want it with out rain coming in. This is especially handy when in storage. It allows for air circulation and allows for better temperature equalization which in turn minimizes condensation. It is possible to builded an air tight CT and house, but any builder will tell you to not build a house that is sealed. A house needs to be able to breath. IMHO the same design feature needs to apply to a CT. It will take more BTUs to heat and cool but it will pay off in the long run.

Going with V nose this time flat nose is big wall for wind but other then that I love camping in CT's I'm on my 3rd on easy to load just open back door easy to pull and park and I get tp put it together myself and with material i want to use not that over seas stuff.

Whoa!! 8x20. That's a whole lotta planning. Wish I was doing it.

What will you tow this with?
