Selling a converted cargo trailer

I wondered if anyone has had any luck selling the trailer they built?
I really hate putting mine on craigs list or ebay.
I guess the good thing is I don't have to sell it, but I don't think I will use it now that I have a new toyhauler.

I have thought about this myself since I have nearly 15K invested in mine and know there is no way I could ever recover even close to that price without finding the exactly right buyer. I will probably part mine out and sell everything separately along with a now bare cargo trailer. Been thinking about a motorhome so it might happen sooner than later but I truely love my trailer.

Even though I do not have a trailer yet, I have thought about this scenario. Right now, given my age and the fact that I wish to keep the costs down, I probably would consider giving mine to one of my two grown sons. They both camp out of tents now with their families. Now if they want to give me something back in return ($$$ maybe) that would be ok also.

I was able to sell my first 6 x 12 single axle CT conversion and although it took about 4 months I was only able to get the cost of materials back on the sale ( low teq and minimalistic fixtures ) the time I spent building it was a wealth of gained knowledge and the time camping and road tripping was priceless, all in all not a bad deal :)

I was surprised to find the people that called me where from all kinds of interests and each time I relisted I would add a phrase from the conversations that I had with potential buyers to the related subject terms listed at the bottom of the Craigslist add. Terms used ended up ranging from hunting, camping, bug out vehicle, toy hauler, cargo camper, enclosed camper, scamp, teardrop, and of course the name of the cargo manufacturer.

I found that many people did not have the cash at hand and wanted to work a deal of sorts :NC but stick to your value and only lower it as needed to get calls, also keep in mind that a factory built cargo camper is not cheap. Many times people would call and lowball the price after looking at other cargo trailer adds, encourage them to search for reviews of the trailer in the add  . I would also encourage people to get a final sale quote from the dealer including options, tax, and licence this was always a surprise to people because it runs fast from advertised prices

keep in mind that trailer dealers run big sales in the winter and early tax season then slowly raise the prices into summer if you can list at this same time you will end up competing with many adds and deals.

when I first built mine it was not easy to find information and very rare to see one in the wild, now popularity is growing for an all purpose camper and many more people are considering them as an option.

(PS) trailer dealers repost there adds almost daily so you will have to do likewise in order to avoid being buried in there adds

hope this helps and good luck :)

Thanks that's exactly the kind of post I was hoping to get, I am not going to give it away after all the work I put into it.
although I am about to buy a 3500 dully diesel to pull my new 30ft toyhauler I may find out that the 7x16 I built may work better in some cases.

So out of curiosity, how much would you sell it for if you were going to sell it?

My original thought was 7,000 I ordered the trailer in 2010 and it cost over 5,000 it is 7ft tall and has the upgraded mag wheels and RV screen door and awning with decals.
I think I have 1,500- 2,000 in everything I put into it to be fully self contained. 2 layers of insulation and engineered flooring and 2 golf cart batteries and 1500 watt inverter.
8000 BTU AC rear screen door , Flat screen TV great sound system that plays CD and DVD through the TV plus home stereo Speakers, a real mancave on wheels.

Honda 2000 generator with extended run tanks I am thinking I will never get that so I will most likely will keep it.

Damn

I wish you and gadget man wanted to sell 2 years ago -
I would have gotten both !! I have 7 into my empty trailer. Maybe another
10 into the solar  :? - it should have been called black hole trailer.
What your asking is VERY VERY CHEAP !!
I would say your best bet is to sell it at Quartside - camping & get more.
That's what I would do if I ever wanna built OTTCT V3.0

I'll have around 30 into OTTCT V2.0 when I'm done ?
Any offers ???

I think the beauty of building a cargo is customizing it specially for yourself.
Although your customization may not suit anybody but you when it comes to selling.

BUT

ID sure like to find a 24' toy hauler partially or fully customized for sale.
I have wanted to build my own for years but can't seen to find the time to get started.

In the car business they say there is a seat for every ass.

Jwhite and gadget man both have great trailers.
They should hot have a hard time getting them sold

Would expect sale to be more like Texas house sale ..... Then a Cali house sale

A bit overbuilt for me personally but I don't think that seems too high a price for all you have in it and it looks good too.

When I was looking for a trailer, it seemed like what a lot of the small converted cargo trailers were being used for was for the older/retired Harley/bike owners to pull their bike up to Sturgis in and camp out of it once there. If I am going to ever sell mine, I will market it to that crowd or find someone who is looking for an ATV mini toy-hauler.
