Door lock recall

Howdy All;

As there has been some discussion about Door latches here and I ran across this on a
RV forum that I also haunt.

Both our doors have FIC locks but we also have two large windows so enough redundancy in how to get out.

The deadbolt cylinders subject to recall fall into two categories.
First, a deadbolt lock with one of the WESCO part numbers sold during the Recall Period is subject to recall if it has one of the following 20 cylinder key codes: HF -304, HF-307, HF- 308,HF-309, HF- 311, HF -313, HF-315, HF-316, HF-320, HF-322, HF-323, HF-328, HF-331, HF-335, HF-336, HF-339, HF-342, HF-343, HF-347, and HF-349

Second , the recall includes any deadbolt lock with one of the WESCO part numbers, Regardless of the key code, where the key can be removed from the deadbolt cylinder when the key is in the 9 o’clock position and the deadbolt is engaged. Under normal use and operation, the keys to the lock should only be able to be removed in the 12 o’clock (neutral) and 3 o’clock (unlocked) positions.

Just checked the locks not one of the cylinders and the lock works as it should.

Incidents like this are the reasons I wanted an egress (emergency) window in my CT as I posted in earlier posts. As I convert my CT, I will be looking for at least one window that can serve as an escape route. I have even thought of making the internal door hinges accessible so one can unbolt them as a last effort (of course that is if the hinges lend themselves to this modification).

I need to check mine too.
Maybe I'll wait until after our camping trip next weekend. (At night we don't like the door with the side tent so we can get to the porta-potty.)

Howdy All;

More good news ... really.

The folks at FIC will send you the replacement cylinders and a special 'tool'
to swap them out, as well as an envelope to return the tool and the bad cylinders.
You just need to call the phone number in the link to FIC and talk to them.

In my bedroom, I store a 3-1/2" axe to use in case of fire, so I can hack my way out through a wall if need be, but your idea would make quick work of the door lock, 'specially if it's a futti5

One blast with a 12 ga shotgun and the lock is gone. I do love my Saiga 12!

I found that the inside "nuts" that hold both the cargo doors and the side door on my trailer can be removed from the inside with a torx 55 tool. There are 4 that hold the hinges on each door. It would make a nasty sound when the door falls off, but you could get out. I keep a torx 55 in my tool box in the trailer.

Now if the hinge is a full length (piano type) hinge, then I suspect another approach is needed.

Got the replacement tumblers today.
Replacing the first one took a few minutes before the lock came out of the door.
Next 3 went a whole lot quicker.
Half an hour and I was done.
And now they are all keyed alike.
