Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I am trying to attach an RV roller awning (this - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carefree-RV-Awning-15-Rose-complete-with-arms-/110859770849?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19cfc1dbe1&vxp=mtr) to a 7x16. But how would you connect at the top for the arms?? The only thing I can think of is bolting a vertical plate (~3-4" wide) at the top rail (trailer) that extends above ~ 1-2" and then bolting the arm carrier to that.

I am also going to build a metal carrier rack (canoe rack) on top ......ya'll have some GREAT ideas....

The description has measurements from the awning rail. Many of the awnings attach or hang from the rail. Awning rail is usually an extruded aluminum strip that is attached to the side of your trailer. The awning slides into the rail and hangs from it. the arms are attached to the trailer and a spring-loaded cylinder has the awning wrapped around it, sort of like a window-shade with the bottom in the awning rail. The arms hold the cylinder away from the trailer. Here is a link to the the installation guide for that awning:

You can buy awning rail online or from most RV dealers.

One of the main reasons I went with a bag awning plus I have been to too many places where I saw $1500-2500 awnings get destroyed by storms where the owners did not know or were not there to put them away before it hit. Expensive lessons

It ain't rocket science to figure out that when your not using it or a hard wind blows in, put it up. $800+ is a hard pill to swallow for me too. But I learned a long time ago, never say never.

I gotta agree about the prices that they want. Even ignoring the price of the awning, the parts are rediculous, even at a salvage yard.

That's why I carry a 10'x10' easy-up canopy in my trailer, I couldn't justify spending the money for a trailer canopy...

I usually have 2 10X!0 and a new Coleman 13X13 easy-up type awning (I like shade!) but the trailer awning is very nice for when it rains and not getting wet when you stick you head out the side door. The attached awnings also do not leak unlike the easy-ups.

I also carry a pair of 10x10. I am now using a cabana made for an R-Pod. It lets me have lots of room with little hassle. Here is the link to my discussion and use.

I had originally planned on a roller or bag canopy until I found the cabana. So far, I am quite happy with my decision.
