Who Has Goose Neck Cargo Trailer Conversion?

Postby Augie Dog » Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:49 pm

Greetings all!! I am new to this forum and yes I filled out the newbie/getting started page. This is what I am planning to do. I have a 2000 25 ft. travel trailer I can no longer use because of a leak destroying a portion of my RV. I am thinking of purchasing a 20 to 22 foot goose neck and using my useless RV for donor parts. I would basically use everything possible to create a new RV that can not ROT.Is there anyone on here that has done a goose neck cargo conversion? I look forward to learning and talking to everyone and maybe doing some camping.

There are many of what your talking about, they are called outlaw trailers
Generally they are super nice , over $100,000
Used as RV and horse trailer combinations -
Companies make professional conversions in the Midwest
You can see them at Horseshows

Good luck

Thanks for the reply and information OTTCT!! All I can say is WOW!! Very nice but not what I am looking for.I am just like y'all in building a simple cargo trailer/RV. I have a 25 ft. RV to use as a parts donor I just need to purchase a 18 t0 22 ft goose neck cargo trailer and start the build.I want to keep it simple but functional.

I too would love to see or have a goose neck because then I could tow my drift boat behind it! I haven't seen any except for those bigger monstrosities. Definitely keep us all posted if you find anything 20 feet or under. I'd be all over a 14-16 foot goose neck.

I seriously looked at building one before I got my CT. I was wanting a 16'-18'. I chased wider horse trailers and really liked what I was finding except for cost. The shorter ones are kinda hard to find.

Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

I've got one I'm working on but no pics yet. Mine is a little larger, but I will be hauling a large playtoy in the back of it.

Hmm..... I better not, my wife'll really question my sanity if I start chasing another build. I like the maneuverability of a gooseneck or 5th wheel over a bumper pull. There is nothing wrong with the way my 16' pulls, I just like the way you can park a gooseneck in tight quarters a lot easier.

You need to get some :pictures: , start ya a build thread and share the wealth!!

Augie Dog, Howdy;

Have you looked into some of the shorter stock trailers?
They come in 5th wheel and goose-necks as well as the pull behinds.

I was going to buy a gooseneck enclosed trailer when I got my 7x14 bumper pull. Gooseneck/5thwheel would have doubled the cost of my trailer, so I decided it wasn't worth it. FYI, shortest enclosed gooseneck trailer I could find that wasn't a complete custom order was a 14ft double axle.

Not really interested in the stock trailers due to weight and not interested in a horse trailer conversion. I want to keep it simple like a pull behind CT only a goose neck. The information I have gotten is the basic GN bunkhouse area is 8 foot long leaving 10' to however long I would want the main body. I am looking for 22' to 24' total length and 8.5' wide. Standard tt is 8' wide. I have pretty much the layout in my head but making that initial purchase/first step is holding me back. As I mentioned before I have a complete travel trailer sitting in my driveway I can no longer use because the roof leaked and rotted out the wood sub frame. A $20,000 piece of CRAP now because of poor workmanship. Do any of you know of a cargo trailer conversion group / club here in North Carolina? Also Prodart where are you located? How far along are you on your build?

don't junk that TT frame, reuse it viewtopic.php?f=55&t=45027, it will never rot and will save you a ton of money!

Augie Dog, should you ever get any interest in a CT group getting together in NC, I would be interested in it. While I am in VA, I am only less then 1 hour from the NC/VA border.
