I picked up a brand-new trailer right before the new year.Image

It's just big enough to hold the wheeler in the icehouse.

I picked up some rubber stall mats from TSC for the floor.

So my spiked boots don't tear up the floor.

For now will be sleeping on a cot. I'm ordering up a Propex hs 2800 for safe heat. I still have to finish the trim and paint. Mother Nature has not been helping at all. We have got about 8 inches in the last couple days. The trailer is a 6x10 with a 6'5" interior height. I'm 6'3" so head room was important to me.

Did you insulate the walls also?

I have camped in some pretty cold weather and sure appreciate the insulation. I am planning on insulating my floor this spring.

One thing I have learned about cots and hammocks: You have to have LOTS of insulation under you, or you will be really cold. The air under the cot will suck the heat right out of you. A sleeping bag will just compress under you so you need something like some good thick closed cell foam pads.

Here is a site on building an ice shanty trailer. Not quite what you are doing, but maybe some ideas for you.

You've done a really nice job with it! Why did I expect to see a round hole in the floor?

I haven't insulated the walls yet. I want to see if the heater will keep up but if not I will insulate them. I have a good cot pad for bottom insulation. As of right now no round holes in the floor but might have one in the future  .
the first trip out it was -15 when I got up . With the big buddy heater on medium and the door cracked for fresh air it was warm enough.
