Just go over to your local auto parts store and get a tube of bearing grease, they should be able to point you to the right stuff. You might see "disc wheel bearing grease", it's good for higher temperatures but does the same job as drum or generic "wheel bearing grease".

I replaced the Chinese bearings with NSK and seals on our Dexter and used Amsoil synthetic grease then adjusted the brakes.

I was curious about what Dexter itself recommended and to see if I could find out more about their bearings used in their axles and found this link which might be of interest to others. I found that Page 20 talks about the different warranties that Dexter offers based on axle model. Might be interesting for new CT buyers to ask their dealer about this.

And here is a good refresher or first time diy'r video on bearing replacement. I have done many many bearing replacements over the years and I even picked up one tip here.

Actually the whole website has many good sections to it.

Jerry, thanks; I find all this stuff b/c all I can seem to do lately is to sit in front of the tv and pc. Back issue. Going to see a neurosurgeon for relief soon.

This partly why I do a lot of research and question asking. But sometimes too much information can be hazardous to one's productivity. Another example of "The Law of Diminishing Returns". In fact I am going to create a new post soon on 6000 # axles.

Car Mate is still on the top of my list. A lot of my other top candidates are just not distributed enough in my area for me to seriously consider them.

I'm not a pro, but I do all my own maintenance on all my powered equipment. About 17 years ago I bought a used boat, trailer and motor. It had one bad axel seal. The seller was a co-worker, he said it's ben that for years, driven all over the upper midwest! I thought hmm? He knocked $10o bucks off the price. I pulled it apart expecting to find a bunch of crap left. It was perfect for the most part. Asked Jerry what he used for grease? Quality marine wheel bearing grease. Put it together and went on my way. I''ve had it apart 3 times to replace the leaky seal, but the rest is perfect. I swear by marine wheel bearing grease in everything. I've had it apart 10 years ago to repack the hubs, nice and clean yet. The same grease has been in there the whole time. If it was to get dirty I'd replace it, but water doesn't effect it at all. Now I do only average 700-1000 miles a year on this trailer, so the grease never will wear out. My dad is old school, regular wheel bearing grease and a new set of bearings for his old Teeny trailer every year! Hmm?!
