5x8 Build Start

Postby pastorized » Wed Feb 19, 2014 12:22 am

Finally got started on my 5x8 Continental Cargo, with a ramp door. Managed to do some wiring and got the insulation in the walls. Looks like side windows will have to wait. I'll install some later when the money is there, I do have a roof vent that will go in and will be installing a a/c unit up front. Being the inside doesn't have a lot of space, I'm keeping it simple. I'll try to keep the post up to date and let ya'll know how it's going.

Welcome aboard and hope you love your 5x8 as much as I did mine are you building a galley in the back or just going with out a galley I went without myself sense I all ways cook in DO anyway it gave me more inside space and I built a cabinet up front for cloths and linens the bed would fold up against the wall while traveling. that gave me more space to haul cooking tables and ice chest and DO's Might I suggest you look around at wrecking yards for windows out of old trailers.

Thanks folks. Bctoys i'm putting a small counter top up front. I't will have a small fridge, room for a propane stove and a coffee pot (must have). The top center will house my a/c unit on drawer slides that will slide out a opening in the front. When pulled in a cargo door will seal the opening. Don't need much storage because my truck has a camper shell. All my goodies are hauled in the truck. Salvage windows like on ebay are expensive, I'll see what I can find local. Thanks

Pics coming soon.

Me too - welcome aboard.

I am interested in your front located AC concept. When I do mine, I am thinking of adding my AC in the front with it being covered with a tall and wide tool/propane/battery tool box (about 5'wide, 5' tall and 18" deep). My concept involves swinging open the top latch of the box when I want to use the AC and to close it while traveling. It would be totally camouflaged when traveling, etc. It will be a couple of months before I need to have it built (trailer manufacturer lead time) so I have time to make mock ups and the like. I can share my sketch if you are ever interested in it.
