both my rear spring assist cables broke

Postby jwhite » Fri Feb 28, 2014 9:26 pm

Both of my rear assist cables have broken and I wondered if anyone knows how to replace them? I can't believe how heavy the rear door is without that assistance I bet it weighs 200 pounds I had to have another guy help me close the door.
I don't have a clue where to begin ?

Any garage door repair company should be able to make the cables and install them. The coil springs aren't that hard to work on but they can get away from you and cause damage to you and or your trailer.

Any baby should be able to make the cables and install them.
Just watch a few U tube video's and see how simple it really is....

if it was a 2,000 lb Steel 16' high and 20 ft wide garage door then get a guy

besides when your door is closed there is no tension on the springs.

P.S. its sorta dead here if it takes 3 days to get some replys

I went today and had a local garage door company to fix my trailer, because I had the cables that had just come loose they only charged me 55.00 really happy because they quoted me 175,00 to 200.00.
funny thing every guy in the shop was in the trailer looking around and asking questions, they thought it was great and was saying I would have never thought to do this and you would never know how nice this looks being home built.
the rear door goes down and back up better than when I bought it they even lubed the springs because they were binding.
I don't think the factory really cares how well it works it seams to be better tuned = smoother now.?
they said that you should not use it with 1 cable and if it came off again to bring it back.
