Still trying to decide on trailer size.

Postby mlowry7 » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:20 pm

Still trying to decide between 6x10 and 6x12. Budget needs determine I go used at this point, and there are a LOT more 6x10s in my area than 6x12s. My question is; Can I fit a standard full size or even queen size bed in a 6x10 running length-wise Behind the walk-in door?

You can, but you won't have much room for anything else. Even in my 6X12, I soon turned the mattress width-wise to get some "living" space in the front half of the trailer. It was just too much used up space length-wise. If you need to run it length wise due to your height, I'd definitely not get a 6X10, as it would only leave you less than 4 feet of space in front of a 6' bed.

I have a bunch of to scale floor plans you can look at if you're interested... They show door, bed & window placement options in a 6x10. FYI, there aren't a lot of options ;)

Do you have access to MS Excel? That would be the fastest way for me to get them to you. Otherwise I'd need to convert them to PDF's.

8) Being 6'2" I am looking at getting a 7x12 just to get a Queen in sideways and have the room I need. Plus the headroom, plus the little wife and 3 dacshunds.

Have had all types of trailers/campers in my 64 years, last one a teardrop, need the room for these old bones. :FNP

You might talk to some dealers too. Sometimes a trailer on the lot maybe placed on sale for a price that is comparable or even better than what you can get used. A year ago my 6x12 new off the lot was a better price than I could find a used one for in my area. But deals happen just keep looking at both.

'

I'm 6' 1.5" myself, chose a 6X14 with the extra 6" of height... I chose the 6' width due to USFS roads I'll be negotiating out here in the West. If
I were to keep to the East I would probably have gone for the 7' width. Strange how that works out ... , ... We got the wide
open spaces and y'all got the wide roads...
Just be sure to check the Interior width of the trailer of your choosing. The ' width is generally the exterior width and you'll lose 3 to 5 inches for the walls.

 Thanks Hank, will look at those options on the lots. Plenty to choose from here.

Mine is 6x14 with nose, but 7'4 tall inside as it was a horse trailer

The extra foot wide would have been nice but it follows easily.

I am with Hank and Hiflyer,
Mine will be a 6 x 14 with a single, 5200 lb axle for almost all the same reasons they stated.
The extra 2 feet over the 6x12 allows me to have the bunks go lengthwise and still include a shower and cabinets/counters.

Here are jpegs of the floor plans I drew up. Dimensions are there, and they're as close to scale as I can make them using MS Excel as "graph paper". 8)

Those were all 6x10 floor plans. Here are a couple of 6x12's...

My favorite floor plans require a custom trailer side door placement, which means a new trailer assuming most don't have the skills to relocate a side door. Also, I think a 32" wide side door is overkill so several of my plan spec a 24" side door. On the other hand a few of my floor plans work around all of the specs you'd find in a typical "off the lot" or used trailer.

Good luck with your decision
