Convert side bar latch door to RV style?

I've been ready to pull the trigger on a custom 6x12 job for a couple weeks now - got it all laid out in an excel spreadsheet.

It works out to over $4500 and an 8 hour round trip to Douglas, GA

I was initially going that route because I wanted a jump on it to use in late September. But honestly, it shouldn't be super hot in almost October, so I can hold off on the insulation - then get the satisfaction of doing so much more of the work myself and maybe even ultimately save a few bucks. Basically for the shakeout trip I can just throw in an air mattress, an air conditioner and the equivalent equipment I'd have brought with a tent anyway.

I can go right down the street and be back with any color v-nose 6x12 V-Nose for $1995 within the hour. Jacks, insulation, electrical, windows - I can do all that.

But the question - they all have bar lock doors. Can I do anything about that? Some sort of a conversion to an RV style door? Assuming I can get an RV style latch on there, would I have a bunch of holes and the like to deal with?

Thanks for looking.

from the dealer.....this is actually a cargo door with RV latch......a true RV door has foam-core

I put a stainless steel eye bolt through the side wall and drilled a hole in the end of the handle to allow me to lock the handle down - 1) acts as a handle for getting into the trailer (prevents from rolling which can crush your hand against the rail :cry: ), 2) prevents anyone from locking me in the trailer :roll:

You could also (probably) install a mobile home door knob> I'm almost positive I've seen this done.

It might be a moot point - there must be 50 6x12s V-Nose on that lot and every last one of them has a ramp door.

I can get the same price, but have to special order and I could add an RV latch then. The dealer suggested I do like you did - have both kinds of latches with some kind of system to make sure a prankster or criminal didn't lock me in.

Keep 'em coming, though - I'll look at some other local dealers to see if anyone's got a barn door one on their lot in the base model. The moment I start filling out a special order form I start adding stuff.

khigh, Howdy;

I also ordered mine with an RV door and had them install the cam-latch mechanism as the extra.
Only about $45.00 that way.
