AC 110 / dc wiring

Postby brandon32689 » Fri Aug 15, 2014 8:52 am

Hey guys I am about to tear the panels off my trailer and insulate and wire. I am still very confused on how to do the dc stuff and what I need.

Basically all I care to run in dc is the lights. My plan is to have a 30 amp hook up or run a generator if need me. 13,500 btu ac on roof and a few outlets threw out the trailer, eventually I'll add a microwave and mini fridge and hang a tv on the wall. I'm just trying to set it up for a place to cool off and relax at the sand dunes. Any ideas on wiring?

What's best way to run the wire behind the panel or outside of them in conduct.

I pulled one panel off to measure and noticed it's not square tubing it's actually like channel studs. Thanks

In you run it in the walls you need to use something to protect the wire. Those studs will quickly cut through unprotected onsulation.

I'm not sure what kind of advice you are looking for. Are you looking for advice on how to get wires from point A to Point B? It's kind of up to you in how you choose to do it. Some of the choices will be limited by how your trailer is built, how you plan to finish it off, and what kind of look you are going for. If the wall studs are C channels, you might be able to use them for wire runs, but not if they have sharp pointy screws or rivet heads popping into them every 12 inches.

If you are going to do all the wiring ahead of time and are certain you know where everything needs to go, putting it inside the walls is the way to go. Be sure to protect the wire anyplace it passes through metal, and at least fasten it frequently with wire ties, but better would be to put it inside a conduit. Putting wiremold on the surface of the walls will allow access to the wires without having to remove wall panels, but then you have wiremold on the walls. (I don't like the look, but I'll probably never be inside your trailer!) Heck, you could put EMT (Electrical Metal Tubing) on the walls if you want to.

Another alternative is to have all the wires running front to back in a raceway covered by a piece of crown molding. Wires may then drop out of the crown into a wall mounted cabinet where the device you want to power lives. Or behind the wall panel.

Start by figuring out where in the trailer the service is going to locate. Most RV's have the service entrance on the drivers side, do you want it on the tongue or on the wall? In front or behind the axle? Then take some pictures of the inside of the trailer and post them with specific questions.

Well if your trailer is like most and has some space above the walls you can run your wires there and spot it up w/cilacone and then run down the inside of the panels that you put back and surface mount a box drilling a hole and run in the back of the box (I used wire mold boxes deep for D/C u can get them at HD) Red (hot)and Black (ground) for D/C. Go to auto store and get a fuse block and it comes with ground and hot connections run both wires to lights and what ever else you might need you might consider running a set to your vent for a future fan. A/C is Black White and Green run them the same way you run your D/C Hope this helps you

I'm trying to take panels off to see what I'm working with. These screws are not coming out I can feel behind them and it's actually not a screw anyone have experience with that

I had the pneumatic nails in my walls. They are buggers to get out. I had the best luck using 2 or 3 nail bars at a time to lift a full edge of the plywood at once. With the force over a larger area I had less wood damage. My adventure with them is on page one of my build. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=55219 good luck!

I got em out of that one panel and measure for insulation I think I'm going to go with 1 inch insulation should be a good fit.

I'm wondering why the frame is not square tuning, I think my best bet will be to run wires in outside
