How about this 15 Gal/12V Garden Sprayer for a water tank?

It's from Harbor Freight... $99. So $75 with the obligatory 25% off.

Short version - it stays pressurized ubntil you release pressure, so you snip off the garden sprayer, hook it to a little sink and you're done.

The only reason I'm not already all over it 100% is that it's not "food grade". I'd have other water for drinking and cooking, but this could be nice for washing up, brushing teeth, shower water, etc.

So what if it's not food-grade plastic? As kids, we always drank from the water hoses in summer, certainly not food-grade back in the day, and there's nothing wrong with me with me with me with me. :lol: :crazy:

khigh, Howdy;

Basically, something I had been considering, use some of this hose
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.a ... &catid=736
and seal the pick-up tube hole with some silicone sealant and you've got
yourself around the food grade obstacle. Just treat the entire unit (internally),
with a bleach/water solution to remove the manufacturer's leftovers, and
flush till you don't smell the bleach anymore.

Makes sense to me. Usually HF has dimensions listed, but I don't see any for this. 15 gallons is pretty huge.

AZKayaker, Howdy;

The wand is listed as 18" length, and we have one here where I live,
the tank is approx. 24" to 30" long and maybe 12" wide and perhaps
12" tall at the pump. Not all that large, One of the maintenance guys
has been using it for 3 years for spraying weeds and it's still working fine.

Just flushing with bleach will not make non-food safe plastic safe for food use. The solvents may continue to leach into the water from the tank, the pump, or the hoses. I just would not use non-food safe rated plastics for potable water.

Yes as to the size, I saw it the first time in the store and it seemed very manageable.

Here's a Northern Tool one only 8 gallons - http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200624833

And yes, if it's not rated, I don't think you can make it rated.

I guess my question there is whether it would negatively affect dishwashing/showering/bathing, and probably the most intenal use - toothbrushing.

Two 7 gallon aquatainers, a $50 Shurflo and some pex is about the same price and easier to handle.

If you aren't going to drink it or cook with it, I wouldn't worry too much. Dishwashing might be greater risk.

We've used this system in portable building when running water is mandated. Battery is 12AH I think. Simple switch and some pex.

Fittings are 3/4"MPT on the water container for the pickup tube. Lay it flat and skip the pickup tube. The extra spigot is $5 on amazon. When the water runs low just change the tank.

Howdy All;

One of the posters questioned as to whether or not the unit is safe to use or not ...
No one has stated that it isn't food grade or not ... what say we find out before we
condemn it? My suggestion about the sanitizing of the tank and replacement hoses
(see the link), are standard RV practice for the on-board water tanks (1 oz. bleach
for every 10 gal. of water).
I followed the HF link and looked further down the page and saw that the tank itself
is made of Polyethylene, and here is a link to some information about Polyethylene;
http://plastics.ides.com/generics/27/polyethylene-pe
and some images of polyethylene uses, https://www.google.com/search?q=polyeth ... 80&bih=673
dang! them clear water bottles sure look unsafe don't ya think ???

That doesn't guarantee that this tank is food-safe.

Tanks that are NSF certified food safe say so, such as this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-gal-Fresh-wa ... 4897.l4276

I agree with Chaz. My first thought was harbor freight? Plastic? Food safety in china is NOT a priority. It's bad enough when things are _supposed_ to be food/child/pet safe....but when that isn't even suggested I'd hate to think what poisons would be found.

Howdy All;

Hot on the trail of these tanks ... they are made in Indiana by a firm named Green-Leaf.
I've sent an email to them to see what the spec's are and if it IS ok for culinary uses.
Will keep ya'll posted.

Howdy All;

Ok, I was a tad hasty about where they are made. Apparently Green-Leaf acquires them from
Den Hartog industries of Hospers, Iowa. The following is a copy /paste from their Liquid Storage &
Containment page http://www.denhartogindustries.com/liqu ... ntainment/
"The Ace Roto-Mold division of Den Hartog Industries manufactures a variety of plastic tanks to meet all of your liquid storage and containment needs. Most tanks are manufactured from medium- or high-density polyethylene and are designed for containment of liquids of up to 1.7 specific gravity. Most plastic tanks come standard in the “natural” (white) color, which is translucent for level viewing and FDA approved for potable water and food-grade storage. Ace Roto-Mold is proud to offer a variety of high-quality tanks for the agricultural and industrial markets."
If you follow the link you will find the Spot Sprayers section and ... a spot sprayer that sure looks like
the ones from FH. On that page the FDA isn't mentioned, it is apparently made to the spec's in question
just not stated so as to avoid any Liabilities. I'm still going to get one for my CT.
