Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Welp - my trailer is constructed and I've got an awful lot of the planned stuff in hand to start building, but I keep running into a wall with toilets. It's kind of a middle ground for me. I've never experienced. I've always either been "go in the woods" or "full blown septic system".

The plan is when I'm full blown set up to take it outside and put it in a shower enclosure kind of thing, but bring it in at night for any random peeing. Then I anticipate some stealth overnight trips where anything could happen in it.

I think I'm not understanding the technology. There are two major kinds (three if you count $$$$ Composting) once you get past going in a bucket or the little stand with a bag under it.

The water flush kind and the chemical kind. Is that a fair "narrowing it down"?

Any huge advantages one to the other?

I did like most and bought the portable toilet that you can buy online, these are a great invention but the problem is empting them, what I did was put in a pvc drain pipe that I can open a empty it from the out side.


When I get home I take a water hose inside and flush out really good and refill the toilet with water.
I also built a box out of wood and put in a regular toilet seat.
also what really helps for odors, I bought those toilet cakes that hang over the side and they really are strong smelling.
that's the best thing I have found.

I think this is a case of researching something til I'm more confused than when I started. Now I think the term chemical toilet is used interchangeably with the portable RV style that "flush"? That you fill it with water and there's a waste tank, but then you put some chemical in it, too.

I'd spend up to about $200 on one if the extra is buying any additional odor control. Much past $200 and I'll just have to bring some candles.

Porta-potty has an attached black tank at the bottom. The top is separated and the black water is poured down the sewer or toilet.

RV toilets drain to a separate black tank which is then drained via a hose to an RV waste drain. My neighbor had a drain installed at home for a ~$200 so he can just drain when he gets home.

There are also systems that use a larger black tank on wheels in conjunction with a traditional RV toilet.

All of them use a chemical in the holding tank to break down waste and control odor.

The Thetford are very popular. We have the 365 and it works fine for the girls. It was in the truck camper and would last a weekend.

I also have a Thetford. Once I found a decent deodorant, I was hooked. No more Luggable Loo's for me.

I have a Thetford for the grandkids etc. Seems pretty airtight. I haven't had it very long. What are you using for deodorant?

We use the biodegradable Thetford stuff and it works as good as the really caustic blue stuff.

I use Thetford Campa Chem Natural.

I cheaped out and went the Camco for now at least for my shakedown trip.

If I'm not thrilled I'll return it, (I'm kidding, but can you imagine? "Sorry - didn't have time to empty the dump tank to make the return window")

Seriously, though - If I'm not thrilled I'll try something else and put that one with the emergency supplies.

Sounds good. The only thing that I don't like about my Thetford, is that it's just 2.6 gallon capacity. My next toilet will be at least 5 gallons.

Thetford curve is what we have. We use it in a privy tent... It's almost regular toilet height...curved front for the " gentleman" and holds 5 gal worth of "stuff". It's electric flush and was odor free. Great, I bought on Amazon for 129.00
