2014 Pace American 8.5x16 V-Nose Conversion

Postby HsPaap72 » Sat Sep 06, 2014 7:22 pm

Picked up my cargo trailer a couple months back.
Been busting serious ass working on it since august. Have to drive it up to Oregon at the end of September where I won't have much shop space to work on it.
First stop after pick up, buena vista Co to camp a night with a friend. Breaking her in real nice ha

Love the Tundra! What are your plans for the trailer?

Good luck on your build!

Those posted out of order. Hmm
Buying lots of insulation. Put an inch of expanded foam on the floor. And two inches of rigid on the walls. That should give me roughly, R~3 and R10 on the walls.
Also got in a second window on the driver side. 24x36

Looks good! Wood burning stove has my attention since that's my plan also.
What is your strategy with regards to mounting the stove? Specifically I'm wondering about the heat from the stove melting any nearby polystyrene board.

For the flooring I put down 3/4 inch horse mat that thick rubber sh**. Will help reduce heat transfer I imagine. That just in the rear 13-14 ft of the trailer. In the front where the stove goes I but 3/4 in ply above the insulation. Then 3 sheets of 1/16 in restored and blackened (the gun blue chem) steel. It was very rusted before hand. The stove is waiting for it's final fastening plans. I thinking a steel strap over the top secured to the original floor anchors. But I think a bolt from top down through the existing feet will be the best... Hmm

The front wall, behind the stove, I've fastened 1/4in hardibacker I will add hat channel and rivet corrugated steel that will serve as a heat shield in front of the hardibacker and insulation. The corrugated will not be sealed so it will allow for that convection.

I'm putting up 26 gauge bonded steel sheet over the 1" of insulation in the ceiling this part of it was a real pain in the arse

Right on, thanks. I'll be interested to hear how it functions when you're done.

so ive determined that the hardibacker with the heat gap and what not should be enough. ive got the stove going outside of the trailer and put a piece of the rigid insulation i am using on it and it began to melt slight ( direct contact). but other times when ive tried to melt it at a distance from heat it doesn't really happen. open flame however and it melts to nothing quickly. the insulation above the stove area makes me a little nervous.

I love the wood burning stove I have in my house and I have a lifetime supply of wood, the guy that helped me bought something called durarock it was 4x8 sheets I then used old fire brick to line the corner where the stove sits.
the only problem I see with a wood stove is regulating the heat in something that small, it just seams to me it would be too hot or not hot enough? unlike gas or electric where you can set the temp ?

Yes durarock and hardibacker are the "same" product.
controlling the temperature will be a skill to develop this winter i guess. ive grown up with wood, open and enclosed, stoves. they can be tricky but hell get er hot and open the door, it will help with ventilation.

HsPaap72, Howdy;

Great job made easier by having the "right" tools at hand.
That and having the skill set to know how to use them ...
Excellent video, well done!
