Picking up the 12x6 monday. Dealer said he can install a 14"x14" vent (no fan), parts and labor for $175. Sound reasonable? He said the weld in the support tubing. 2" steel tubing I think he said.

Sounds like the shop rate is $150 an hour which isn't unreasonable.

I still had the original vent cover on my 1990 Starcraft pop-up that I just sold. Of course it was probably made in the USA, not China.

I paid $88 plus $18 shipping from eBay for total of $106. I will cut the hole and install myself. You need to determine if $175 is worth it if yours has the fan. I believe my model was 8000. Hope this one example helps.

I'll just do it myself. Didn't someone have a good link for a DIY computer fan + amazon vent assembly
link? I tried overthetoptrailer's blog but it was impenetrable.

I've decided to go with a Fanstastic fan. They're expensive a but get great reviews and ratings and also have great tech support. I think there are places to make cost savings in these endeavors, but a roof vent is arguably a critical element since it relates to ventilation and rain/weather intrusion. So I'll play it safe and spend the extra 80 bucks. Seems worth it, versus buying a $23 ebay unit with missing pieces and no instructions.

We framed and put our vent in. Hubby welded in the framing for it and the windows.

Usually you can also just have them frame in for your vent and windows at the factory.
