Fantastic vent install

Postby sbshaver » Fri Nov 21, 2014 6:32 am

I need to install my fantastic vent in my CT. what the best way? Should I use one of the metal tubular ceiling frames/struts to mount one side of the vent and then use wood to finish framing it in? How do you attach the wood to the metal tubular frames? L brackets? Should I build the frame on a workbench and then just lift it up, assembled, to a cut out hole? :?

Here is how I just did mine. I have to post the photos of my other work so far - maybe this weekend.

Anyway, I have 1 inch aluminum frames across the top as installed by the manufacturer. Since I added 6 inches to the CT height, I am able to have 4 inches of space to add insulation. So I added 2x4's across the top and secured them to the aluminum cross frames to give me the space for insulation.

I have a Fantastic Fan with a sleeve that will allow for the 4 inch depth.
First I built a wooden box using the Kreg system and left over 1 x 4" boards from other projects. Boy I love working with Kreg screw holes and screws.

Then I secured the box to the 2x4's.

And added the fan. The hardest part of this job was getting up the nerve to make the cut in my CT top.

I would assume that making a frame for just the typical 1" frame would be the similar, just a frame with less depth. But I would assume that the Fan itself would dictate the depth for you. I am not too sure about this statement because I did not even look at that option.

Hope this helps.
Bob
