Metal Polish??

Postby Spotman » Sat Nov 22, 2014 2:28 pm

Only found one old search on polish. Anyone have knowledge of good stuff to use on black, some oxidation, to bring back the shine? I know it's very thin paint job! I have and old style buffing wheel too. :worship:

Spotman, Howdy;

Have you thought about some good old fashioned Rubbing compound?
Get on of those squeeze bottles that you get katsup or mustard in, put
1/8cup of compound in it and fill 3/4 full with water. Shake it very well,
until all of the compound is dissolved. Squirt a small amount onto the surface
and rub in by hand a buffing wheel wight just rub the paint right off.
Keep to 3' X 3' squares. When you finish one side go back and use a soft
clean rag ( I prefer towels cut-up), to remove. I used to do 1 Cessna 150 a
night with that solution when I was a teenager and worked at the local airport.
Skins are about the same (0.030"), and the paint isn't that much thicker on one
as opposed to the other.

On my black trailer I use a Porter Cable random orbit sander with a foam pad. Mc Guirer cleaner wax seems to do well. the chemicalguys.com stuff seems to work well to.
Be careful not to make heavy polishing swirl marks, they are hard to blend in.
