Hi All,

I'm about ready to start building cabinets in my build, but I'm a complete newbie to doing so

Does anyone have pictures of your cabinets being built? It's a V nose but I plan to go straight across with an L on the drivers side. I think once I can get a general Idea of how the faces are framed, I can make some progress.

Are there certain types of wood I should or shouldn't use? I was thinking 2x2's and nice 5/8" plywood??

There are lots of pictures of cabinets being built. The trouble is that they are mostly part of each build thread. If you see some cabinets that you really like, check their build thread.

Others will probably join in with comments and/ or pictures; but, at Christmas time, things tend to get a little slower around the forum.

Wish I could help you. There have been a number of them built into v nosed cts. I don't remember which ones though. You'll have to look through some of the builds on here, focusing on the v nosed ones, and thumb through their pages or photo gallery.

MtnDon did something interesting with his V-nose. He put the door on one side of the V and the kitchen area on the other side of it:

I've built a lot of cabinets, and the key is planning your layout in as much detail as you can. I normally build complete cabinets, but with this trailer conversion, I am building the cabinets in place, starting with the facing. I have posted a link to one of the best threads I have found here that should help.

Watch a couple of youtube videos on building facings, then build a simple square frame to understand the process. After that, it's all in the planning.

As for the type of wood, Oak is very common, as it's very strong, but also very expensive. I am using clear pine to save weight.

You will also want to watch a few videos on building flat panel doors. as these are easy to make. Post questions with pictures and I am sure someone help.

Later this month I hope to start my cabinets. I will be building them into the trailer so as to save space and weight. No premade cabinets with backs and sides for me. Also I will be looking at making foam core cabinet sides and shower walls for weight reductions. I don't consider them hard if you have basic wood working skills and some I important tools.

I agree with Professorkx. Get the second tool he recommended or the Kreg version which is what I have and will be relying on heavily.

Use the word "cabinets" in various topic sections and read all the posts you can. The photos alone can give you ideas.

Kind of got what I was hoping for, I'm pointed in the right direction now anyway. Home Depot also has the Kreg on sale right now, almost bought one the other day. Guess I'm headed over there tomorrow and thanks for wood recommendations. Time to get to searching and making a game plan.

Instead of solid plywood for the case sides, you can make interior dividers the same way as the face frames. If you are going to have drawers, you'll need to think about what type of drawer slides your are going to use. Some mount to the face frame and the back of the cabinet, although most mount to the cabinet sides. If you use frame construction instead of plywood, and you are using side-mount drawer slides, you need to locate the horizontal frame members (rails) at the right height for the drawers/slides.

For comfort, it is best to have a toe-kick (recess for your foot) for the lower base cabinets.

Don't worry there are 1,000 LURKERS here for every poster....
In my opinion however the worst are those who suck tnttt's contributers brains dry for help & THEN NEVER!!!

I used a Kreg jig- the $40 setup, and built the cabinets in my CTC. Kreg has a downloadable pdf on building cabinets that was all I needed to get me started. I bought the doors at a local store that sold any size/style of cabinet door in stock for $5 each. There are pictures on my build page of my cabinets. Although this was the first time stick-building cabinets, I would not hesitate to do it that way again. Making doors will be my next challenge- my original cabinets were dictated to some extent by what doors I had purchased.

What do you need to know I used to build custom cabinets for houses

There r a few tricks that can make your project a lot better like when cutting your rails a nd stiles lay a pencil under them a nd cut each end to length this will give you a very slight bevel and make your joints a lot tighter (no gaps)
