flboy, Howdy;

I'd imagine that if you were to think it through you could find several duplicate
items that you could do that with. Problem only arrives when the need to turn
one into a guest lodging at home and need to go camping at same time. (MiL
visits come to mind). chucklin'

Hi Hank. No risk of a MIL coming anymore... but I can think of a SIL coming that just may prompt me to go camping for the duration. Lol

I have tried not to have too many items I share between trailers as it there always seems to be something left behind. I like just to throw in food, water, and clothes along with a few totes in my shed and take off.

All of those to replace with one LiFePo4. About 55aH of more capacity (225a useable vs. 280Ah) and about 185 lbs lighter... not to mention charges quicker and etc.. Nice change.

The Golf Car batteries are 59.4lb each vs. 52lbs for the 280aH LiFePo4.

Got that job done. Solar Controllers are reprogrammed for LiFePo4, now I have to figure out what do with the 55A PowerMax PM3-55 charger/converter. May need to switch it out with the converter in the 6x12 if I cannot make it work for LiFePo4 instead of the FLA Golf Car Batteries. [Edit--- was able to drill rivets in case, remove the cover and I found an output ajustment potentiometer. I was able to adjust the Boost Mode output down to 14.4V from 14.7V. That should work fine for the Lithium Battery. Whoo Hooo.. don't need to spend more $$]

I do need to neaten up the wiring in there now that it is vacant. Probably will put a basket to store tools in the empty space.

Wow!

While I had the 280aH LiFePo4 battery out today, I also installed an active balancer. You can see it on the front of the case with the wires running inside. The BMS just doesn't do it well and I was seeing some top end imbalance which I believe is due to the internal resistance of the warranty replacement cell being slightly different than the three original cells. The active balancer can pass up to 1.2A between cells to ensure a good balance. A better balance should increase the efficiency and life of the bank. The balancer has some indication LED's on the board when it is working, so I installed it on the outside (under a protective cover) so I can see them. It actually works well. It balanced the cells from 81mV total to 3mV in about 30 minutes. The little board was worth the $10. My 230aH bank in the 6x12 CTC stays reasonably balanced, but I will probably install one on it just because i bought two of them. :D

Got the old girl out of the back yard. Cleaning, inspecting, and loading for my month long trip out to Nebraska next week. Been almost a year since I used this trailer.

Hi Hank. Good to hear from you. The hanger queen is ready to go.

I am only going as far as Nebraska. Going to head West on I-10 as far as Alabama then secondary highways to angle up. Will pass through Arkansas and Kansas and probably tough on Mississippi and Tennessee as I work my way up.

In any case.. not in a big hurry.

Hope you have a great summer.

Checking all the systems before I leave in a few days. Appears the LiFePo4 active balancer is working well. The battery bank was just finishing up a charge cycle after the solar panels got some sun this morning. I could see the balancer was active (red LEDs on) and balancing off a 70mV differential between cells. It will take the differential down to 3mV. Solar chargers seem to be tweaked just right with a 3.60V max per cell (14.4V total). No BMS limits being breached. :-)

Don, the retired truck driver is curious about the route you'll
use. Pass it along when you feel like it. Who knows, may be going
near some of the others.

I left home on the 4th early AM. Figured traffic would be light on the 4th since people are where they want to be by then. Went 195 to I10 to I75 to I24 to I57 to I64 to I70 to I29 into Nebraska, then state roads to final destination. Traffic was light as expected. Boondocked in truck stops (Loves and Pilot) for 2 nights. Made it in to Nebraska destination today late morning..Roughing it tonight on the 6th in the 7x18 CTC. Will be here for 3 weeks. Take care.
