What do you think of this Cargo Trailer for a conversion?

Postby RandyH » Wed Mar 30, 2016 5:27 pm

Hi,

Got a lead on a 2001 Pace 8X14 trailer on Craigslist. It has roof air, insulated walls and ceiling and electrical. He wants $2800. Here is the link...

https://bham.craigslist.org/rvs/5511911287.html

I'll probably go look at it Friday. What are some things I need to look for as to the condition of the trailer? Also, is this a fair price, after all it is over 15 years old..

Thanks,

Randy

Looks like a good start depending on what your needs are. I needed a ramp or rear doors atleast on mine. The price is right if its in good shape. I'd check to make sure the AC works before buying if it were me buying it.

If I were looking for that size trailer, if the trailer is in great condition with no damage or water leaks and if it had a back door, either barn or ramp, I would consider it. Also what are the tires like? Do all the lights work? To me, no back door is a deal breaker.

The other work done and added to me would not affect the price. That is the way I see adding items goes. Do you ever recoup your costs?

And I would anticipate that for my use, I would have to remove the paneling to see what is behind them and to understand the further work required, if any.

But in reality, this is a personal choice and all of us have our thresholds of what is right or not.

Oh, PS, is the title clear?

I like it but then I am pretty easy where this kind of thing is concerned too!

It is a big rig for sure,do you want something this big?

Seems like a decent value though depending on actual condition,it looks like some kind of Mobile Showroom to me.

Yo could get this and camp or live in it right away it looks like too.

I would also want to make some other means of egress and light inside even if just a big escape hatch or something similar.

Look at it and see what your gut tells you.
And then let us know of course!

I like it allot. Yes, I would put another door in the rear of it, which should be easy enough. Looks like a great start! I wish I could tow something that big... but it's out of my Jeep's league.

That's a pretty good deal depending on condition, which you really have to check that out in person. Strange that there is no back door, and that's a weird bench, too. If you don't plan to haul anything, its a pretty good starting place.

That is the exact type of trailer I'm looking for. I spec'd a bare no rear door 8.5 wide x 18' long and it was around $3,800. I do not want a rear door or ramp because I don't have toys and don't plan to have any. I want to use my rig for camping only.

It's really , really strange it has no rear door. That's something that would make resale very difficult.

If a new one is only $1,000 more I would go for the new one, come on its a 15 year old trailer. Tires, bearings, springs and new brakes can easily set you back over $800.

Just my 5 cents worth.
