Hello all,

During the design process for my 6x12 v-nose conversion, I never considered the need for a powered, externally-vented range hood. I've found - now that the project is essentially complete, of course - that I do in fact need one. The problem is that with all the other interior components in place, my mounting and venting options are -extremely- limited.

RV range hoods are made for direct through-wall venting. I can't do that. The hood will be in the front of the trailer centered directly in the middle of the "V". Even with ductwork (not a problem in and of itself), my only venting options will be either on the driver's side nose, or through the roof.

My questions:

1 - Although the drawbacks of a nose-mounted vent seem obvious (water leakage at highway speed, etc...), has anyone here actually successfully mounted a vent to the front of their v-nose?

2 - Regarding suitable roof-mounted vents, the only options seem to be residential units, such as : http://www.homedepot.com/p/Broan-Roof-V ... /100344509 . Curious if anyone has gone this route?

First off, Welcome!!

There is a neat gray box at the top of the page that will help you find
several suggestions for your question. Personally, I'd try to find one of the
older (some may call it vintage), pop open vents like there used to be on
older RVs and homes. If that is a no-go for your tastes then perhaps just a
Fan-tastic Fan in an overhead 14"X14" vent hole should work just fine. That's
my suggestion.

Have you considered going with the nose vent and placing a low-profile cover over it? It could slide onto rails, be hinged like door, whatever, so that water would not get in while towing. When camped, just remove/open the cover, and you're good to go.

It is tough to understand exactly the issue without seeing what you are talking about.

Are you planning on a lot of indoor cooking anyway? You might find that an open window and/or roof vent is all you really need.
Also all Stovetop vents I have used had a flange for mounting flex duct to so I could divert to a flat wall if needed,have you seen one like that?

A vent can be as simple as a hole in the wall above the stove and a small flip open door outside or even a vent damper cap that has a slide knob inside to open and close it from inside and then a small louvered cover on the outside.

On my recent Casita I even removed the Hood entirely as it is so huge and replaced it with a plastic louver outside and sliding cover inside.

Lots of options really.

A Maxxair 10 speed ceiling fan and an open window works for me.

I'd be interested to know how you know "that I do in fact need one." Just curious.

Standard roof vent... No issues.

I added some weather stripping on he leading edge but don't think it matters much.
