Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I bought this 6x10 in 2006 when I was in college and constantly moving. It's been used to move friends but mainly just sat unused. I planned on selling until i found this forum and decided to keep it. I'm planning a minimalist build, nothing crazy, just something to take a quick camping trips. Upgrades will be cupboards in the front noise area, solar power system, LED lighting, USB charging points, FANtastic vent, two small windows, tongue storage box, and it must sleep 7 (5 kids).

Here it was Saturday:


The kids are small so four can fit on a queen size bed, the fifth on the floor. Here's where I am after some work today, queen size bunk bed:


I might have to insulate the ceiling, the bare metal got pretty hot today. Anyone not insulate and regret it? Summer time we usually backpack and sleep in hammocks, this would be used more for fall and spring camping.

You'll definitely want to insulate the ceiling. Next time it rains, step inside and you'll see what I mean.

+1 on insulating the ceiling. Also consider buying a gallon of Henry's 587 roof coating at Home Depot for $30 or less. It will reflect a lot of the sun's rays, reducing solar gain (heating) of your trailer. 1 gallon is sufficient coverage for a 6 x 10 at the recommended application of 2 coats (you may even get 3 out of it)...just did it on my 6 x 12 a month ago.

Yep, Henry 587 is made to reflect the sunlight and reduce roof and interior temps. A good and easy place to start. Just be sure to check the weather and temps required, and a good clean surface.

Also keep in mind that most of the unwanted heat comes from the roof, while most of the wanted heat (winter) escapes through the roof. Lots of people double the insulation in ceilings and floors, compared to walls.

Grabbed the Henry's from Home Depot, still need to find the time to paint the roof.

Completed the top bunk and some shelves this morning.




Also added an old truck bed tool box to the tongue.


Found a perfect step ladder on Amazon I need to order, screens for the back door, and lay the floor. That will be the bare essentials but useable.
