Noticed something and wish to ask a question ...

Howdy All;

This may not apply to everyone but, ... I'll ask anyway.

Quite a few are going all out with their plumbing and I have yet to see anyone mention or
show their "Low Point Drains". As a Fulltime RVer I don't need nor use the ones that came
installed with my RV. Some folks live where they'll never need them, others, ... well what
do you do to get all the water out when it gets cold enough freeze the system? Haven't
seen it mentioned so thought I'd ask.

hiya hank,
I haven't quite finished my plumbing yet but I'm installing a drain on my build. It'll be on the low side of my water tank, complete with shutoff. I'll be able to use a small air charge to clear any water out of the tank and associated lines. Its not much, just a simple gate valve that runs outside.

We blow air through the lines to ensure they are drained. That has worked for a long time for us, both in RV and cabin use.

I use an air compressor and RV antifreeze.

I installed a flex line with shut off into my plumbing. I can then stick the line in a gallon of anti freeze and turn on pump. Pump anti freeze into water lines but not my holding tank. I did find that my holding tanks pre installed drain doesn't drain it !

I have a low point drain on the tanks... however, my ultimate solution is to avoid temperatures below freezing. :-)

Yep, I have a low point drain for the hot and cold water lines. My system is all PEX with brass fittings, so I use brass ball valves for the drains. And the hot water heater drain is another low point. Actually we used our trailer all winter over the last two years. I've kept the system above freezing so haven't had to drain anything except the six gallon water heater. So I've never used the low point drains, LOL.
