Home window AC size/location and install questions

HI Guys

Just putting together my winter work list. Converting a 6x12 vnose. Not sure where I want to put the AC. I do want to use a house window type. What would you recommend for size (5000, 6000) for a 6x12 trailer? Would eventually like to run it off a small yamaha or Honda generator.

I think the biggest question again is where to mount it..Thinking up high would be the most effective (and trying to balance the weight of the trailer). So show me your pics for ideas. I've seen some where they have a hatch door that opens, and folks push the rear of the AC outside when using. Seems like a good idea. Does the water run down the side of the trailer then? Also would like to see some other ideas folks may have had.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

I cut a hole for a hatch... in the "V". 5000btu cools perfectly in my 5x10.

I'm using a 8000 BTU window unit thats energy star rated in my 7x16. It pulls a whopping 5.4A @ 115v and will easily run from a small generator.

It will eventually go here in the ramp once I finish the support rack. A flap door will cover the hole when not in use.

Here's another option: Still in construction as you can see. Also, there is another refrigerator vent on the roof which is the intake. I am cooling an 18'*7' Vnose with a 6,000 BTU.. but I insulated well with double in the ceiling.

6000 BTU works wonderfully in a small cargo. I did a window shaker install in my 6 x 10 a few years ago and it's working perfectly.

About 2/3 the way down in this thread.

I reach it easily from the bed and it runs beautifully on a Champion 2000 inverter generator. Takes virtually no room in the trailer and at least I think doesn't look like hell from the outside. :D

All great ideas guys and thanks for the feedback. I want to be able to take the unit out while traveling. They are made to be stationary in a home and always installed seems it might put pressure on them traveling down the roads. Plus the esthetic look..The only one that I feel would be fine is Flboy and I really like the way you've mounted that..Do you have links to the wall vent and roof vent or should I just go to amazon and search

Cheers
Al

Al, here are the Amazon links for what I used for the intake and exhaust vents. Good luck with your build! Make sure to post some pics.

Ditto, nice work! I have a 6000 BTU unit in my 7x16. I just slide mine out the hole when I used it and put it back in for travel. I thought about doing exactly what you did but I've been too lazy :)

For the OP, my 6000 BTU unit works "okay" in my 7x16, well insulated trailer. Sometimes I wish I had an 8000 BTU, except that I'm not sure I'd be able to power it with my little 1000 watt generator.
