Nice trailer. Nobody's going to bother with all those locks. LoL.

That's what I hope, they either busted the tongue lock off my last one or dragged it away with a wrecker. This one will hopefully just take too dang much time for them to bother with.

And....He's back!!!
Can't keep a good man down. That does look like a substantial security system. I'd just end up locking myself out, already have issues with that. But like you said, if someone wants it bad enough.. they'll find a way.
Well good deal, glad your back at it. Looking forward to your third build. Your are a veteran builder now. ...

I have been wondering how often these trailers are stolen... and the best way to secure them.

I thought about hiring a bum to live inside with a 12 gauge. There is not much you can do to truly secure your items. I used to teach a "personal security" class and one of the things I always told students was that regardless of what you do, if somebody wants it bad enough, they will take it. All you can do is slow them down enough they decide to go for an easier target.

There apparently was a "ring" in my area stealing cargo trailers. Last one I just used a ball lock (the yellow one in the picture). This one has the ball lock, a collar lock, the chock lock and the cable goes through the wheel, around the suspension and axle and is secured with a krypton lock. Even if you pull the wheel with the chock off you still have to deal with the cable.

Howdy All;
They have at least 1 per week that disappears from Albuquerque. One had a wrecker lift it from
the tow vehicle, another there were 4 or 5 guys lifted it onto the get-a-way truck. Some they
drive into the fenced yard and drive off with it. They want it ... they'll get it. Sad very sad ...
Just get some good to better insurance, take a lot of pix of it (inside and out), get to know your
local police folks and make them your friends.
Those cables can and are cut with a large set of Bolt Cutters or a battery operated angle grinder
just like the bicycle thieves use. Then pop the tire off (or use the angle grinder on it as well), and
as that trailer has 4 wheels it will travel far enough on 3 before they can put one of their own on
for the rest of the trip. I repete; They want it ... they'll get it. Sad very sad ...

I am also planning on installing a GPS tracker, they have gotten very affordable lately and monitoring plans are only about $10-$15 a month.

Truly, the take away here is to insure your valuables. Insurance protects your wealth, not necessarily the items. But I'm liking the "Bum with a 12 gauge" idea. Are you taking applications?

I have been binding 3 of mine together with cables in the hope that they will try for something easier maybe but I know if they want it I am just kidding myself too.
What is wrong with People?

And behind a fence too

Quick side story,
A guy here was doing some construction work at the UPS office, had his work trailer parked outside over the weekend. The cameras caught these guys cutting a hole in the floor and stealing his tools in the middle of the night. Just left the empty tool boxes.

Goal is to get the first layer on the ceiling and floor painted before I have to cease all construction for mothers day.
