Al:

Sorry, on the road right now in AZ - Meteor Crater east of Flagstaff.

Check ebay for "Load locker" spare tire holder. This mount came with my trailer when I bought it in 2014 -spare mounted inside.

I asked around to see if 1 mount was enough for outside mount (if spare fell off inside, no biggie, but outside....) So I bought another and mounted them 1 on top of the other with 1 stop screw at the bottom. That way, with a little bit of effort I had 2 mounting points. This has worked well for over 2 years.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

  • Here's a simple alternative, if you want to make your own.

since spares are heavy, a bottom rest is advised

The mounting bracket that came with my trailer, still to figure out where it will call home,
is like this one only for 6 hole pattern.

I'm sure that you could make one yourself for less cost if you want. Mount the flat strap
on the inside and ensure the bolts are long enough to mount the spare on it. I would also
solidify the area for mounting with something like a piece of 2X4 or something like that to
keep the sheetmetal from bearing the weight on the outside. Make strong ... like rock ;)

Go back to Adam's (Jiffypop207) build. His entire project was great but he did a nice job on the spare mounting on ramp.

Thanks Guys..

This is the unit I got with my trailer..The frame is aluminum..Down the centre are several holes which I would attach via carriage bolts or similar to a park of the ramp 1" tubing frame. I only see the one bolt to hold the tire on but Im sure I could add a second..Thoughts... or should I look for something more solid

Al:

Can't quite make out your picture, but as I suggested, I thought 1 bolt to hold a spare on was not enough, so I bought a second unit so my spare is mounted with 2 bolts.

Others have suggested other ways to accomplish the same thing at lower cost.

With the spare at the back, it's out of the way and it does not affect the operation of the ramp.

Hope this helps!

@ hank,

If I'm reading that right, they intend for this to bolted to a wall stud in the vertical axis, correct?

Generally I'd reckon so, however with support I don't see why it couldn't be done horizontally.
The most important part for an exterior mount would be to ensure some support behind and
against the sheetmetal. Keep from wallowing out the holes.
