Stand alone AC

Been doing some thinking about AC, Incase we head to warmer climate this winter. Don't really want to cut a hole and use a mounted AC. I know they make portable , stand alone, AC units. I would think one of those would easily cool a 6 X 12 cargo trailer, even in a hot humid climate. I did a search on this and came up with noting relevant, although it has. Probably been addressed before. I am wondering what others experiences with stand alone have been. Is it adequate to cool your CTC?

they are a waste of money they don't work well at all unless you only want to be cool at night,

Our standalone unit works just fine - used it to cool our rig last spring when outside temps were 101F down the east coast of the US.

It's a single hose unit. We store it in the closet on front side of our kitchen. Pull it out, point it towards the rear, connect the 5" hose and turn it on.

It does take a while to cool the rig but the cool/cold air coming at you is great. The area at the front of our trailer (behind the A/C) is definitely warmer as the cold air doesn't really get back there.

But it works for us and it runs off a 15A circuit.

Thanks. I am not very familiar with the stand alone units, and wasn't sure how the hose figured into the equasion. Can you plz post a link or a pic of what you have? We will be using our CTC mostly in MI in the summer months, will hopefully head south for part of the winter, so I doubt we would be dealing with temps over 80 or 90 degrees at the most, so perhaps a stand alone would be adequate for us.

You won't find many people on this forum who have much good to say about these things. A lot of builders have gone to the time and expense only to find that portables wouldn't do the job. However, If you go this route be sure to keep us updated good or bad.

The first conversion I did, I used one of these, and it was a giant mistake!! It was absolutely Inadequate in every way. Big, Heavy and DID NOT COOL any better than a fan hardly.....lol

I had to sit right in front of it to get any cool air? worked ok after dark ? wasted 350.00 buy a window AC

Well, none of that is what I wanted to hear....It seemed an easy way to solve the problem. Alas, things are not always as they seem.

Our A/C cools our trailer quite nicely. It is noisy when it's running, but I'd rather have that than the heat!

I like the standalone unit because it runs off a 15A circuit.
