honda 2000 on propane

Postby jwhite » Sun Jul 02, 2017 6:23 pm

has anyone made the switch from gas to propane ? I am considering doing that or buying a https://www.amazon.com/Champion-Power-Equipment-75537i-Generator/dp/B00JZQUSAC
they both have advantages the champion has more power and wireless remote start which I really like but less hours or run time before refueling.
I already own the Honda and my guess the run time would be a lot longer with the propane tank ?
I used to be able to run my AC and charge my golf cart both with the Honda but it seams like now just when the compressor kicks in the AC shuts off ? it looks like I am going to have to take it back to the shop and have another tune up. and wondered if now is the time to make the switch ? or buy another generator ?

Gallon for gallon propane is less energy dense, maybe by 15%?

Runtime determined by tank size.
Big advantage is longer hours running, less carbon wear. Also no fuel storage problems.

But do break-in hours on petrol to seat the rings.

But all generators are set by the EPA for sea level, the higher the altitude the worse the performance for gas. My Yamaha is Tri-Fuel - gas/propane/natural gas - mixture is tuneable so it runs at peak performance everywhere. Emissions are water and CO2 - no smell at all. I have boondocked and left it running way into the evening to cool off using the AC, no smell or odors.

Maintenance is a dream, no clogged injectors, no rotten gas left to clean out.
Security mount, can not be stolen when you leave camp.

I bought a motor snorkel kit for under $100 on sale. If these interest you, you might watch/wait for a good deal on one. I have been hesitant to install the thing, I am not sure I like the idea of the choke smashing the snorkle every time you start the generator. Probably not a problem, maybe I will put it on some day and I can give a glowing review.

No, but since I bought one I get all sorts of deals and info sent.

I will add that I bought mine on-line, free shipping coupon from NC to Calif, no tax, modified by a Yamaha dealer so no warranty issues, plus 3 extra years of warranty - for cheaper than my local Yamaha dealer was selling the base unit not including tax. A really good shop, they did not know what break-in oil was and said the generator did not need it. Contrary to what the seller said, the sticker on the unit said and the manual said.

I bought this based reviews by several other TD people that bought one, and many people have come into my camp and are amazed they did not hear the generator or smell it. I think others have bought them or the Honda pre-converted to save the hassle. The security mount http://perfectcasita.com/gepr.html was a given with the crooks in abundance.

Also make a neutral ground shunt so your surge protector will work properly. http://noshockzone.org/generator-ground ... l-bonding/

Yeah, I did a lot of research before I put down my money.... just passing on info to help others. Isn't that what this forum is all about?
