Windows stuck shut

We got our cargo trailer new, late in the fall. It has a window on each side. We have been too busy to work on it until recently. The Windows have never been opened. I went to open a window the other day and it won't budge. The latch pulls out fine, but the window is rock solid. Not moving. I am thinking it must be stuck shut. What is the best kind of spray to use to loosen it? I don't really want something that is going to leave a lot of residue or that will run down the walls. Thanks.

Silicone spray is good for the tracks... Have you tried "jiggling" it back and forth? Push it closed more and then gently try to pull back while jiggling it some. I have had a few stuck before and that worked for me. It wasn't so much about the force used as it was the jiggling while moving.

Howdy All;

Bit late but I'm thinkin thermal expansion. Built in a cooler time of the year ...
my trailer windows are super loose in the Winter ans snug in the Summer.

Probably contributing for sure. Who knows when the windows themselves were built. Design should have accounted for that variance like your loose in winter and tighter in summer. Of course it is possible they messed that up.

Probably should have opened them in the fall, to try them out,even if we weren't using the trailer. I doubt I can jiggle them. They are solid. I will stop by Wally World tomorrow and pick up some spray. Hopefully that will do it.

PB Blaster.

Bust stuff un-sticker out there. Well, if there is corrosion holding it up anyways.

by working on it
  • I've got three things to try, if lubricant doesn't free your windows...
  • 1) Try using a small flat-blade screwdriver to run along inside of the track to check for bent or distorted frames...I would use a plastic comb edge, if only to lessen the chance of tearing up the seal.
  • 2) Assuming that the windows have clamping rings, check for the screws being too tightly done, compressing the glass tighter than intended. and,
  • 3) check for excess sealant, that may have gotten in the tracks, or between the clamping rings and the glass.

I just recently picked up my trailer with factory installed slider windows. They were tough to open the first time. They are better now after a few open/close cycles.

When I was working in the CTT on Friday I sprayed the both top and bottom window tracks, with liquid wrench. Then I put after letting it sit for about 20 minutes I put piece of cardboard over the window and tapped it lightly with a hammer a few times. I reamed on it a bit and it reluctantly came open. The other one took more effort, but eventually it gave too. Then I sprayed both tracks with silicone and opened and shut the windows several times. Now they are good to go.
