6x10 Cargo Mate Challenger

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Little video of the heater running. I've had it running for a total of 3 hours straight. So far no issues. Plywood around the exhaust is fine, no toxic fumes coming in the trailer due to "negative" air pressure. Battery draw is a concern and I can see that I will at some point need to upgrade my battery & solar system. One 100ahm 12v battery with crappy HF isn't going to keep the battery going. Luckily for now I can charge the battery if needed with the generator. Not sure how much diesel I have burnt. The tank did come equipped with a sending unit installed. I ordered a gauge for it and it should be here today to install.

On another note I ordered drawer slides and will be installing drawers and removing plastic storage tubs and the chuck box that currently lives on the counter space. I am also considering enclosing the space at the front cabinet to help deaden the sound of the heater. Which for me isn't bad but I know the wife will complain about the ticking from the pump all night.

Got a fuel gauge for the tank. It works! Not sure where I’m going to mount it yet.

Always evolving. Adding drawers to replace plastic tubs. Since I’m retrofitting the framing is a bit off par but I wanted to use up some scrap ply and keep the weight down.forgot to add in the gap required for the sides so had to cut one drawer down a bit. Not a big problem I own a table saw!

Lol.. looking great in any case!

Just in case you didn't know, you never get done building a CTC. Just when you think you are done, you will decide to perfect something or improve. LoL.

I just rebuilt the bed frame in my now 5 year old 7*18 vnose after being done and see a few other little things I want to do. If that's not enough, I am starting a new 6x12 build. I think it is a disease. At least my wife thinks so.

Yeah I've long known this will truly never be "Done". I build wood boats and they are never done either! Plus I get bored and create projects to keep me busy.

Wife said next trailer has to have a bathroom... Guess that means at some point I'll be building a new trailer. Gonna be a while though need the manufs to get caught back up and supply to return first.

Yes, I think I barely got mine trailer delivered and it took 5 months... and building material is through the roof. I just paid $38 for a sheet of 1/4 plywood. That's crazy! An the steel I am buying for windows and etc. is about double from what I remember.

That's a great price! 1/4" here is $60, 1/2" is $80, 3/4" is $102.

I've been a design associate for an Architecture firm for the last 20 years. Typically see a $20-30 dollar per sqft. increase every year. At the start of the pandemic a typical house that we design was coming in at $400-450/sqft. Those same houses now are at $550-650sqft. We have several higher end homes that are at $800/sqft, and two that are $1,200/sqft. Interestingly we haven't had a project cancel and the phone is still ringing. We had 7 new client prospects last week.

Pretty interesting what shutting down manufacturers and the supply chain does. It all trickles down.

A major drain right now on building in our area is the supply structural lumber. The biggest producer of structural lumber (glulams, i-joists, etc.) can't get a steady supply of adhesive. I-joists that normally need 1-2 week lead time are now 3-4 months out with no guarantee. So now guys are going to roof truss companies to make floor trusses. Which is overwhelming them.

Assuming things open back up and people go back to work its going to take 3-4 years (barring another shut down) to get back to where we were pre-pandemic.

The cost of materials is why I'm using every piece I had on hand. I really wanted to use 1/2" for my drawer boxes, but I had a full sheet of 3/4". Typically I'd use 1/4" for the bottom of drawers. Luckily I had a random piece of 3/8".

Here right now a 1/2" sheet of plywood is

Installed the big drawer and removed the old chuck box. Going to add a spice/bottle rack on the front wall.

That drawer looks heavy duty with the 3/4 inch plywood. Alot of storage there!

Wrapped up the new storage and I’m super happy. I haven’t seen the top of the counter in four years! This is going to be a 100% better. It really opens up the trailer and doesn’t mKe it feel as cramped. Plus I now have space to prep food, or work on things if I need too.

I also mounted a the fuel gauge for the diesel tank. I still need to determine where to put the duct. For now it will just be loose.
