I have always thought that I do a pretty thorough pre trip check before heading out. Well last trip out did my normal check of things and headed out. Had 150 miles of washboard to drive and getting to and from camp was normal,or so I thought.

Went to put the rear drivers side stabilizer one when I got home and noticed this

Image

When I left camp it wasn’t this way. So somewhere between camp and home the nut on the shackle bolt for the leaf spring went missing. Fortunately the bolt stayed in place. Max speed on the roads I traveled was 35mph.

Of course it rained all week. Weather finally let up. So I tore into the repair. Thought I’d have no trouble getting a new bolt and bushing locally, wrong. So I had to order parts from Etrailer.

Few other issues were uncovered once I got the tire off. The wiring for the running light has been rubbing on the tire. There was too much wire. So I shortened that and replaced the connection with a heat shrink solder connection. Also the fender has been loose. The factory missed the one stud, and put a bunch of screws into the siding. They even left the missed holes exposed... at some point I’ll replace the fenders with Jeep style. When 8 do that I’ll add blocking in he wall for a bolted connection. For now I just riveted the fender to the skin.

Love having the jack for lifting the trailer. Worked great for getting the tire off.

Wire rubbed bare.

Nice of the factory to pre drill holes for me to rivet the fender on...

While I’m waiting fir parts I’ll inspect the bearings and replace if needed or goop up the ones that are in there if not.

Half tempted to order a brake kit and throw those on. While everything is apart.

We had a hot spell and my solar project was put on hold. While I waited for things to cool down the parts showed up to fix the shackles. I went with Dexters heavy duty greasable replacement kit, ordered from Etrailer

I had to use the grinder to cut off the other bolts. Even after soaking with the good stuff and heating with a torch they wouldn’t budge. I was in a rush and didn’t take outs of pics

Today the temps dropped and I was able to get the solar array in place. I decided that I needed more support so I ordered another set of roof racks.installed one more.

I was hoping the panels would sit below the top of the rack, but the sit proud by a 1/4”

So I need longer bolts and need to space them down a bit

The old plastic bearing! Wow! The new ones are metal of some sort.
