I want to change my Illinois registered 5000 to 8000 lb TC license plate from cargo trailer to RV

Any ideas?

Very hard to find info online, or talk to anybody these days...

and the state of ILL just raised all cargo trailer plates $100 this year

As RV it's $120 cheaper at $30

It now meets Illinois RV requirements, but did not when bought new in 2018

As a former Illinoisan I feel your pain! Prickster is literally bankrupting the citizens of Illinois. I hope you can get an answer from someone.

great topic.
I have been curious about weather to register the cargo trailer as a" trailer" or RV myself; but have not done much research yet on this.
aside from the possibility of a smaller DMV plate fee each year (which Is a big deal), what other factors come into play?
is the inspection criteria the same? how about insurance premiums? personal property taxes?
I know most of these answers will vary by state, but im still curious as to what others have done. any info from VA owners especially appreciated!

I found this just now, specific to Illinois

State Farm insures my new in 2018 Legend 7X14 V-Nose for $10 a month with my F150 and home. My bike is cheaper at Progressive. But both cannot match my current cost...

I will wait to change to RV next year as nobody is working...

and I did haul cargo with it the first year...

Notice in the IL document -- "walk thru access to the drivers seat" Definitely not a 5th wheel or towed vehicle.

Getting 4 of the features is pretty easy.

Yes, I know, but cannot find trailer regs

It will require a trip to DMV with trailer

I have gotten RV plates on pickups with toppers twice, which allowed me to drive on LSD
