Makes me wonder if some motion sensor lights for dark areas off alone would be worth while?

Light up some real sq ftage. There could have been more folks just out of your site line.

Yes, after this and for future solo boondocking, I am considering infrared cameras and then some type of floodlight on all 4 sides I can throw on if something is going on. Monitor will be on wall by where I sleep.

I have windows, but when it is pitch black outside, they don't help much. The infrared will help me see in the dark. They will be motion activated for anything roughly over 75lbs. Don't want to be alerted by small game and etc.

Also, if it is a person, I can let Lex out first to distract while I exit.

I bought these LED lights and my trailer is well lit outside at night. I've ordered camera's too.

flboy, Howdy;

Good to hear you got out of there in the same number of pieces as you went in with. ;)
For all the good folks you may encounter out there there are always a few of the not so nice ones.
Having a thinking security system is always a good thing to have along. Also provides the excuse that
you really aren't yackin' to yourself when you get questioning looks while you explain life's mysteries
to Miss Lexi.

Stay Safe,

hank

Night Vision goggles... That's a thought. ;-)

Was going to move towards the Grand Canyon, but weather is too cold there with lows in the teens all week. I think I'll stay here a few more days. I like it here and only into the mid 30s and low 40s at night. Worried about tanks freezing.

Lexus is liking her freedom here in any case.

A little over 200. I don't go out too long or too far as I have to keep my dog locked inside the CTC.

Have you considered enclosing the bottom side and heating that area so you can use the CTC in cold weather?

I am thinking about using coroplast to close in the belly on my next build. I have seen this type of material used on newer factory built campers. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... t&_sacat=0

If the bottom side was sealed up well enough, it may be possible to duct some heat from a diesel heater below the floor and keep the tanks from freezing. It wouldn't cost much to install some thermocouples on the tanks and pipes to monitor the temperatures.

I thought about it, but the gray water is not a big concern. I put a 60W heating pad under it for some freeze protection; however, it is just gray water and if I am boondocking, I'll let it run out as I use it.

My biggest concern is the 40 gallon fresh water tank in the back of the truck. I could empty it, but then I only have 15 gallons with me.

Aside from that, no point just sitting in trailer all day if it is too cold to be outside. At least if that is going to be the norm. I also didn't bring alot of cold weather gear. I am from Florida and just don't have it.

flboy, Howdy;

You mentioned; " My biggest concern is the 40 gallon fresh water tank in the back of the truck. I could empty it,
but then I only have 15 gallons with me. "
Don't keep it full, just keep level at 3/4 to 7/8's full. Leaving room for expansion. You can also use your 60wattt
heater and either lay it over the tank and some reflectix to help hold the heat in. Orr, put some plywood under the
tank with the heat pad between the 2. Lots of ways to go about it, just need to open your mind..... :thinking:

This little device that sets on top of the stove does a good job of warming up the CTC quick. I wouldn't use it and go to sleep or etc.. The diesel heater I have works for that. But I like to have a few options if one fails and it is good just to take the chill out of the air if needed.
