New Build - 6*12 Offroad Toy Hauler

It looks like the bed will deploy with the bike in and with the bed up I have full access to everything albeit very tight. But that's the idea.. being able to stay the night somewhere without having to unload the bike. Can get a shower, something to eat and a good night's sleep on the road.

Going to try the bike in backwards also to see how that works. The problem with forward is the handlebar is rigjt up against the window. A good pothole and it would probably break it. So, I need to build a window guard to put on for hauling or turn it around.

Backwards is the way to go. It takes care of the window issue and also keeps the handlebars more aft where they are not in the way so much. The bed still deploys well. Alot crammed in a 6*12, but it's going to work for me.

I think this will also keep more of the bike's weight more forward which is needed . It was actually just as easy to push in backwards given where the handlebars are when the rear of the bike is already in the trailer. I had no problem.

I did make a place for the safety chain to attach. This is all the ramp that is needed for this setup. Will make a place for it to attach underneath later. For now it goes in the pickup bed.

I need to come up with a little table that hangs off the side of the bike. Will be perfect for relaxing on the couch and eating a meal.

Got the floor Etrack for wheel chock, D-ring holes cut, the Bed Skirts and table done this afternoon. Just have to bolt the D-rings in tomorrow, build the 9 inch drop shelf for right side, and put in underneath insulation and I can call this done except for accessories I need to install (LEDs , Ham Radio stuff, and etc.. . But let's be real.. we're never done with a build and especially accessories.

Round table will pull up and store on Etrac wall when bike is on board.

Added a Bidet sprayer. Will use this to fill Porta-Potti fresh water tank when needed, but also to supplement the flushing under heavy loads! Lol

Porta-Potti retaining strap. I want no surprises when I open the door after going down the rough trail!

Put some vertical slide bolts on rear door on the A/C side top and bottom and a barrel bolt on the other door along with a handle. Can now lock the trailer from inside and if I leave the outside open, I have another egress. I bought hardware to lock the bar open on the outside, I just need to install it.

One of my projects later will be to build a screen door for the one side so I can open up the backside if I end up in a spot with a good rear view. May just try the screen/magnet thing first. Those seem to work for folks.

Installed a piece of vinyl fence 4x4 sleeve to hold my sewer hose and double as a graywater tank rock guard or at least the first line protection.

Hey Don thanks for the encouragement on my last post. We have had the screen magnet thing for 3 years. We would much rather have the screens with the magnet for a door than a standard RV screen door. Much less hassle to go in and out and much quieter. Your build looks like it has come together very well. Looks like you’re ready to hit the trail. I will keep checking back when we have Internet have fun my friend.

Finished up the drop down tables. The one on the door in the back will be for my HAM radio station, but also work as a cook surface if I swing the door open and throw the stove up there with a 1lb bottle.

The shelf by the window will open with the bike in and happens to be about the same height as the bike seat. Will give me some shelf space on the road as the round table will have to be stowed.

Back door open and can use for cook surface.

All closed down.

Completed Build

Postby flboy » Fri Jul 23, 2021 4:57 pm

I finished the last few things I wanted to do today. I am going to call this CTC done. Taking it on its maiden voyage of about 5,000 miles and about 6 weeks.. maybe longer. I looks like I had envisioned it. After I wear these factory tires some, I plan to "underslung" the axle and put some off-road tires on and add some Summo Springs.. That will come before my trip out West in January. Going with factory suspension for this break in trip. I started the build on May 10 and I did have a few weeks in there where I was not working on the trailer... but I'd say I have 6 solid weeks of effort into this and overall 2.5 months in process.

It looks fantastic... mine is just plain but it's somewhere to sleep, eat and have the internet.

What will you use for heat next winter? I bought a diesel heater and probably will get a Wave-3 heater too. I refuse to be cold even one night.

Thanks. I have a spot for a diesel heater. I plan to install that this fall sometime. I also carry a Mr.Buddy propane heater. That is what I typically use in Fl. Not much need for heat here however. Just a few cold mornings.
