Big Horn Mountains Elgin Park 4-11-15

Postby 39Ratrod » Sun Apr 12, 2015 10:36 pm

Went for a shakedown camp trip Saturday. Went up to Elgin Park. It's the only road that is open so far this season. I went up last Saturday and it was just 2 rut in the snow. Was a little more melted this weekend, sort of. This part of the mountain is usually very crowded and I don't even bother with it, but this early in the year only the foolish such as myself venture in. So we had the entire area to ourselves.

Got everything set up and enjoyed a nice warm afternoon. Well, it was warm in the sun. Most of the area was void of snow.

Put the EZ up just in case.

These camp spots have been picked over pretty good when it comes to firewood so I bundle my own.

Had a nice fire and the evening was beautiful. Stars were out it was great.

Then we woke up to this....BAM!!!!!! 3" and coming down hard!

Figured we better pack it up in case it continued. It did.

It was a great trip and got me motivated to finish some things and tweak others. Looking forward to next weekend!

Oh man, you are motivated. The pictures looked go until you got to the snow. That would be a deal breaker for me. Glad you were able to get some things figured out on a short trip and now you will be all set for Walk the Winds! Good job Mick.

I have a gift or a curse depends on how you look at, when it comes to projects. I can fixate on them until I like my results. Eh, the snow wasn't too bad, would have enjoyed it and stuck around longer but you never know in Wyoming especially at elevation what's going to happen. I am STOKED for the Winds trip!

Right on WyoRon! Elgin is above Buffalo off HiWay 16. It's only about 20min from the house so it was a good first trip. Would love to check out you build sometime. We make it to Sheridan often. I used to drive there way too often when I was working at Spring Creek Coal.

Lol. It's not even a trailer yet, but good to know there's more than one of us in Wyoming. I was just in Buffalo tonight refereeing the Bisons in soccer.
