Searching for wild horses.

Postby Modstock » Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:52 pm

I've been wanting to photograph the wild horse herd in the west desert for awhile now. New lens.
2 weeks ago we did a day drive, scouted out the Simpson Springs campground . Couldn't find any horses.

Wanted to get out there before bug season.
Last Friday I took the trailer and camped the whole weekend but still no herd. Did find 3 stragglers miles apart from eachother .
Temps were in the 60's at night but windy off/on. Stars were spectacular though .
I'll probably come back late summer to see the herd .ImageImageImage

Sometimes they are pretty elusive. I used to see them a lot on Sands Basin Road about 10 miles south of Poison Creek Stage Station, just a few miles South of Homedale, ID.

I was up there only once this year (about 2 weeks ago) and didn't see the herd. If you're willing to give the area a try, Leslie Gulch is a beautiful
place to camp and hike.
