Route 66

Postby Rickxr2 » Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:32 am

On a recent trip we followed Route 66, then Hwy 69 to Kansas City. It was nice to slow down and imagine the activity that once existed among the small towns and roadside parks. At first I was sad to see them deserted, but then I realized, if not for the interstates, the old towns and parks would have been torn down, rebuilt, and gone forever. There's so much to see just a mile off the interstate, I'm glad the old places are still there for us to enjoy!

From a previous trip, the Blue Whale in Catoosa, Ok.

One of those views you don't get from the interstate.

An old filling station in Afton, Ok.

The buggy co. lasted only 11 years, the grocery is still in business.

I have to throw in a plug. In Kansas City near Cabela's, we tried some Twisted Farm Food at the Hash House A Go Go. How can you resist a name like that! We were impressed, to say the least. Amazing food, atmosphere, service.

...thanks Rick....I would like to say that one of the great things about sharing pics and trips is allowing folks to see stuff that they have never seen and just may want to one day....much like travelling that less used way.......

Great pics, thanks a lot. Drove full length of the Mother Road on my honeymoon in 1952, in my 40 Desoto. Made it back and forth, no problems. Now it is mostly gone, gobbled up with the interstate in many places. Still enjoy heading down the 2 lane that is still driveable.

We did an unexpected Route 66 trip last year when my mother died.

The kids had just seen CARS, so we had to see the Cozy Cone.
