Military Campgrounds

Postby Deb » Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:05 pm

My husband Bob and I just took delivery of our new Camp Inn tear drop. Now we're busy planning our weekends and vacations. Today I discovered the there are a lot of campgrounds associated with military bases around the country. As Bob is retired from the Navy, we'd like to take advantage of them...we're wondering what they're like. Has anyone had experience with them and do you have any recommendations? Thanks!

I've been retired from the USAF since 1979. We've utilized military recreation facilties from Maine to California & Alaska to Florida. A few we've used as a destination/base while exploring surrounding areas, replenish supplies as in returning from Alaska over the Alaskan Hwy, etc. Mostly if we spend more time in one place than planned & need an overnight stop we'll try to find a nearby military 'fam-camp'. While many are in very scenic areas & make great 'hubs' for exploring most are on/near military posts with accompanying restrictions, noises, etc. One thing I can say is that we've never felt anthing but SAFE while utilizing one. Can be a very valuable resource if you're eligible
