I have been wanting to do this for a long time. Solice...
I had an ok Friday night with no plans of camping, at least it started out OK. I went to hang out with some friends in Terrell, my buddy was having a teardrop gathering, without the teardrops! He makes a humongous amount of food, and we sit around the firepit, drank beer and have a good time. It is usually a great time anyway but this one dude and I got into it and he got a physical with me over his misunderstanding that happened in a flash, and fighting at what is supposed to be a party really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I got up Sat and it was still bugging me pretty bad how people can throw away friendship so easily, and I couldn't focus on my projects and on top of the fact that my May camping trip got derailed too because of the Town Car breaking down, I said to hell with it I need to check out and be away from humans for a while... I knew it was late when I decided at 7pm to leave but by 7:30 I was out the door and headed over the hill at Grand Prairie at sundown...
I got site 301 which is the last site in a row at the top of the hill. It was really windy which helped it feel really cool. I arrived there just in time to hang the hammock, set up the grill, unfold my chair and light a fire. It was pleasant all night and I think I hit the sack at 1am.

I woke up to this view and a couple of shots of the site, noticed NO ONE WAS THERE... NO ONE... completely deserted! I loved it! I have got to remember this weekday camping thing!!!
I painted the grille of the truck black the other day, I think it looks good.
Had some wings for breakfast and then took a nature walk. It started to get hot around 3pm so I hibernated in my nice and cool teardrop, and watched some concerts. The sun was directly on the teardrop and it was pretty hot, probably 90, but the teardrop was nice the whole day. This is important considering that the high fan for some reason doesn't work anymore, so the fan was on low the whole time. This site is on the top of a hill, but there is a row of trees that start shading fast, so as soon as they started casting a shadow I joined the wilderness again.
I had only planned on staying Sat night for a quick getaway, but the lady said if I book a second night it would be half price, and I figured that since Monday was my mandatory 10-7 late day anyway, I could probably swing it so I booked the second night right then. To me camping is just not the same unless you stay two nights. One night is still OK, but two nights is camping!
It was such a wonderful feeling being there with no one as far as the eye can see. I could not see a campsite anywhere that was occupied! so of course this was the prefect time to break out the acoustic guitar for the first time camping too!
I grilled up some shishkabobs which were great and headed to bed relatively early. My phone died sometime Sunday so I had no concept of time, but I knew I had to be at work Monday, so I left my moonroof shade open which I knew the sun would make a natural alarm for me. I woke up at dawn, watched the sunrise and packed up and drove home, saw that it was 8am, perfect timing, showered and even swung by my chiropractor for an adjustment on the way to work.
The only negative thing is that either I was too lit to realize it while sitting around the fire, or ants or something got in while I was sleeping, because I woke up with 60 bites from my waist down to my feet. Oh well, I will itch, for a couple days and it will go away. It was a super time.
Solo camping is not for everyone, especially social people, I enjoy both, but it was high time I spend some quality time by my self!
