Dixie, that looks like a cool place. Did you do any fishing? How close is the camping to the beach? How are the amenities (bathroom/ showers)?

War Eagle! War Eagle,
This may be one of the countrys best kept secrets. It's an incredible campground and the beach is super close. The campground is very shaded with palms, live oaks and 50' tall pines. It's about 15 miles from Beaufort SC.

The island has a lighthouse that you can climb and some trails. You can fish in the ocean, (I don't know the laws or anything since it's SC) I use to fish as a kid and haven't since probably 1965.

This is a great campground, you will not be disappointed.

Keep you food locked up though cos I saw racoons that must weigh close to 25lbs!

No alcohol, but hey, does that stop anybody?

As long as your discreet (kept in a hugger or a cup) no one will say anything to you. I had no problem drinking beer.

We were the only Teardrop in the place. The wife & I must have given seven or eight tours of the Teardrop each day. Folks were really curious. So that was pretty fun.

Oh yeah, it's also a great campsite for kids.

Once again, it's a beautiful place, I've already booked to go back in October. (ReserveAmerica) I highly recommend it. Killer spot.

Hunting Island is my most favorite place. I've come hear more thany any camping place. And I would say the same about it being secret, most people that are even from South Carolina don't even know about it.

Oops I forgot, they have all the amenities, shower, a little store etc.

I've reserved to go back 10/19 -- 10/21. Maybe some of y'all will make it then.

Like I said, it's a great place.

That is the same weekend as the Fall Crawl, so we'll have to check out that campground at another time.

Thanks for the beautiful photos!

Hunting Island

Postby Alfred » Fri Aug 26, 2011 5:26 pm

Hi All,

Wow! I need to check-out Hunting Island - We've been to Myrtle Beach State Park, SC (one of our favorites) and Huntington Beach, SC but we haven't been to Hunting Island. Sounds great! Great picture of the tear in camp, too.

Sorry Slow, I have to disagree. It is a very big deal. When we were hit by Ike it destroyed the area for a very long time. It was not just weather, it was homes, jobs, landmarks that can never be replaced and of course, many lives were lost, many. I know you probably have severe weather also and from many posts of yours you go out in it to make your living so surely you can relate, even if it is only a little. Someone help me, this soapbox is pretty high.
