Wow nice pics! Looks like we followed nearly the same trek. I really liked Periwinkle Campground, even if the birds woke us up early. Bahai Honda is a great place too. Looks like we were even sitting in the same places in the sand! ;)

hey dakota,
i just ran across this post and it brought back a lot of memories for me. in december my son and i went to Key west diving and i ahve a lot of the same photos. we also did jimmy buffett's, malory square, all the tourist things and walked alot. one of our dive boats left from right beside the african queen. so i have that same photo. southern most point also. thanks for bringing back some great memories.

The African Queen boat was a big surprise to me. I didn't know it still existed or that it was in the US. I really loved our trip to Florida. Anybody remember the old slogan, "See the USA in your Chevorlet"? That jingle ran through my head the entire trip. So many places I had seen on tv or in others photos were now real for me. Flying is fun but a drive is more real. I'm looking forward to our next big teardrop adventure. We plan on making the Pamplin Grove gathering in California. I'll have to bring along some Beach Boys music for that one! Hey, I can be a "California Girl" for a while anyway!! ;)

..."Driving through Missouri and Georgia is tough. I like to channel surf with the radio when I travel to find out what different parts of the country are listening too. In these states 8 of 10 stations are Jesus Music. But along the road are huge billboards advertising Porn Superstores and 3 story high fireworks stores. Odd combo Jesus, Porn and Fireworks!"...

this is so funny! personally i don't remember things that way, but gave up trying to listen to the radio a long time ago. bad reception, too. we live in the "greater" columbia area right off I-70. if we don't take CD's it's quiet. that's where SIRIUS comes in.

definitely don't remember the porn stuff... but am not big on reading billboards. i see lots for Lake of the Ozarks and Branson nightlife. and of course BUDWEISER. (yuck, never liked it... like bottom of the barrel bock beer with big flavor

i was born in brookings, SD. i *think* you went right by there.

i love, i mean love to see and hear about people's trips. gives me ideas and just plain good time.

:applause: elizabeth

oh, and what terrific and adorable kids! wish my seth was that age!

dakotaMouse,

you didn't see one of these signs while in south Florida?

Nope Jim I didn't! But that does seem like good advice!

Once in South Dakota I saw a sign warning about porcupines. Not for the obvious prickly reasons! Seems that in the middle of the night porcupines like to chew through the brake lines on your tow vehicle. Brake fluid is sweet and they like it very much! Imagine driving through the Black Hills and finding out that you have no brakes!!
